IMO Blackmore (rather than Clapton) was God. Not so sure about his quasi-Nights-of-the-round-table stuff he's been doing with the Stevie Nicks wannabe he married.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I have always been a big Blackmore fan and have always felt he gets slighted as they always mention the big 3 Clapton, Beck and Page instead of the big 4. He was one of the first guys to incorporate modal playing into his solos when 95% of everyone else were just playing pentatonic s and his use of fast arpeggio runs and classical influence surely opened the door for Yngwie. Besides being one of the biggest abusers of the trem. When I sum it all up he is just one of the all time greats-period.

I remember him as the closest thing to Hendrix back in the day. He used his Strats for a gritty "biting" sound and wasn't afraid to bend the steel, spank the plank or wrangle the necks of those fiddles.

Yeah, I was always a fan of Blackmore. I remember in the early eighties, he was massive in Germany when I was there, they idolized him. Always going around the castles, 'ghost hunting' apparently and thinking about it,
he was probably bigger around Europe, than he was in Britain.
Around that time and maybe throughout his career from the eighties, he used John Birch pups in his Strats. I remember because just then, I was using a John Birch guitar, very powerful pickups.
I also think he was one of the true greats. I always loved 'Weiss Heim' one of my all time favourite guitar instrumentals. 8)

He was my favorite for many years. Unfortunately, as time went on, he got a bit boring, repetitive and noisy. I guess his mood swings would more than account for this. Regardless, he's rightfully up there with the rest of the bonafide guitar legends.

Certainly an influence on me--as was Jon Lord.

they worked well together.

I saw him live with Rainbow--Roger Glover was Rainbow's bass player at that time--he was on that night and just went nuts--one of the best guitar performances I've seen live.

im also a big fan of Mr. Blackmore ..... 8)

back in the 70's era, there's nobody can't play as fast as he did, as clear as he did . (for example: Jimmy Page playing is very "dirty" until now, and Page Can't play fast like Blackmore)

Mr. Blackmore was one of the Pioneer of Shred Guitar in the 70's (beside Uli Jon Roth ) , and he was giving the inspiration for any shredder guitarist in the 80's rock until now, like : Yngwie malmsteen, Chris Impellitteri, Joe Stump, Axel Rudy Pell, etc.....

thanks Blackmore , your contribution in music is very influenced the rock guitar playing until now ;)

Great guitarist.

Rainbow's "Rising" album is really what got me going on guitar.

Wow, that is an unbelievably great album. For me, I saw Blackmore when the classic Deep Purple lineup reformed and toured supporting "Perfect Stangers". Holy moly -- that was just scary good. Blackmore was unreal ...

I've never been a huge fan of Blackmore, but I've always liked Deep Purple's Music.

Smoke on the Water is a great song with a great riff, but Space Truckin' is my favorite Deep Purple song.

Blackmore was a true pioneer, but I have to respectfully disagree with this statement.

Listen to Alvin Lee for a start.
