He turned 65 yrs old yesterday!

Just think how many times he's played *that* chord riff!!!

The riff that launched a zillion guitar players' careers!!!

One of the ultimate rock Strat players!!!

Huge Purple and Blackmore fan here!

Much love from this end. Going to see a non-Ritchie line-up of Purple here in Belfast this summer.

From what I've heard, he's not a pleasant fellow most of the time. If you get through the nine gates of hell and into his inner circle, he's apparently a gentleman, your money's no good, etc. But to fans, and anyone not in the sacred dozen or whatever, he's curt at best. Now it seems he's mellowed a bit with age, and that's good I guess.

I think in the old days he was insecure because he didn't get the press that Clapton, Beck, and Page got. He reveres Hendrix (one of the few he reveres) though.

I've heard the same that he's a bit difficult which I guess many are. I used to refuse to believe that Van Morrison was bad and then I saw him one day (lives just round the corner from my Mum) said hello to him and he told me to 'f*** off'. Disappointed to say the least.

Now I never want to meet Blackmore in case he lets me down too! One hell of a guitar player though. I like Rainbow too and some of his other projects but the guy was just immense in Deep Purple. Love them!

I guess I'm not surprised to hear that about Van. It's tough when a singer loses his range and vocal chops.

Peter Wolf (J Geils Band) and Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) are starting to book some shows over here and both these guys seem pretty down to earth. Aerosmith tour kicks off in May.

Blackmore's chord riff to "Smoke On The Water" might be the most famous Strat riff in rock music?

I've met many other guys I'm a fan off and most were great to be fair.

You might be right about that riff you know, if not then it's top 3 for sure Mike.

Any player who openly credits Jimi Hendrix as a major influence is A 1 in my book.I love Ritchie's Uni-Vibe drenched sound and could listen to him for hours. His style and sound is definitely one of my favourites.
