A lot of the so called "new" stuff that comes out today, is pretty much generic sounding IMO. Where has the guitar solo gone off to? A lot of these so called bands, don't even bother with solos. Their excuse is that it takes away from the song, well I think it's because they just don't know how to play well enough.

Well I found at least one guitar solo in the Current top 100

Its his best album, just after leaving GN'R. Have you tried Amazon? You can usually find it on e-bay or can download it via iTunes.

The line-up on the album is immense:
Izzy Stradlin (Guns N' Roses) - Vocals/Guitars
Rick Richards (Georgia Satellites) - Guitars
Ian 'Mac' McLagan (Faces and many more) - Keys/Piano
Jimmy Ashurst (Broken Homes/Buckcherry) - Bass/Vocals
Charlie 'Chalo' Quintana (Bob Dylan) - Drums/Percussion

Guests:
Ronnie Wood (Stones/Faces) - Vocals/Guitars
Marc Ford (Burning Tree/Black Crowes) - Guitars
Nicky Hopkins (Stones and more) - Piano

I love that album and the rest. He's just so wonderfully diverse in his playing while always sounding like him. I love that.

I'm 21, and I agree the majority of new tunes being put out today aren't very moving to say the least.

What I've been doing lately is listening to our local oldies radio station online, and whenever a song comes on that really knocks my socks off, I make sure to write down the song name and artist (this particular station has an online list of the last 500 songs played, updated after each song). Slowly am I building up a list of a lot of the stuff the older fellows here listened to growing up.

At the very least it seems modern jazz or classical-style music haven't gone downhill. Thank goodness.

Yeah I looked at Amazon, the american one has it but the canadian one doesn't. iTunes doesn't have it either and e-bay, well that's an idea.
You've already gotten me hooked on this guys music, I just downloaded 2 of his other albums from iTunes, thanks!

Nice one! I'm glad, he was the best part of GN'R and the reason I play. As far as I remember Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds is on iTunes but under that full name and not just 'Izzy Stradlin'. Hope you enjoy!

Cool! Let us know what you think of the albums you got!

There are 10 out there as well as an EP, 2 live albums and of course his 4 with GN'R.

Very cool. If you really dig his playing listen to Guns N' Roses Appetite for Destruction. Izzy's guitar is in the left speaker, brilliant with his off beat up strokes. For me he is the ultimate in rhythm playing.

Cheers.

[edit]: Apologies for the 'off topic'. Lets find this man some new music guys! More suggestions as others may be turned on by some which has happened. 8)

I used to manage a CD store until it was closed due to low sales. Its been over two years since I was exposed to that much music. I do not have cable so I do not get exposure there, even though most of the stuff I've heard on music stations doesn't grab me at all. I have a friend who has an EXTENSIVE catalog he has been downloading and every now and then he plays some stuff he thinks I would like, but I can't really get into anything. Sometimes if I have an album and I get to listen to it for a couple of weeks it may grow on me, but nothing GRABS me anymore. Am I just getting old? The only new music I tend to buy is from established artists putting out thier umpteenth album. I try not to discriminate musically (or any other way for that matter) but my main areas of listening pleasure lie in classic rock, blues, funk, reggaae and ska. Maybe I should go back and discover some Motown or old soul.

Great idea!

I find that I dig one or two songs from new artists. Most of them seem to be trying to just make hits not just well crafted songs. I seem to appreciate artist that build songs not hits. If you build a song right it migh just be a hit by the fact that the song itself is good. Not just "sound" like a hit. I went totally backwards in my musical journey. Motown, Ray Charles, hard bop jazz that type of action. Oddly enough my pops listens to new age hip hop and rap, he's in his 50's, I'm in my 20's. Funny how that works out
