I have a fender guitar that I don't know the model, year or any other information to get replacement parts.

I took the neck off and stamped on the butt of the neck it says Jun 62A. Just below the keys it says Fender "Musicmaster". The plate that holds the neck down has 87124 stamped in it. Finally, the guitar has two potentiometers, one pickup plate and one plug.

I'd like to get new pots, plug and pickup for this guitar, can someone recommend where to get the parts and how I can find out what model it is?

Thanks

The model name is staring at you right in the face...Musicmaster. More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fender_Musicmaster

The year of the guitar is 1962 judging by the serial number 87124 and neck stamp 62A. See here for serial number dating: http://www.fender.com/support/usa_instruments.php

I would NOT replace anything until you get it checked out by a trusted appraiser that knows guitars. You got yourself a vintage pre-CBS Fender. People pay crazy money and go nuts for anything vintage from Fender. Musicmasters won't command top dollar as comapared to a Tele or Strat from the same era, but it still is worth a lot original as is. Even the original pots, pickups, etc etc command big bucks on the vintage market.

Don't replace the pickup, pots, etc if they are still working. If they are dead, get them repaired or keep them in a safe place if you decide to sell it. Non-original parts decrease a vintage instruments worth.

p.s. Do you have a pic of your Musicmaster?

Cool that it's working. And to confirm what was said, any original parts you replace, hang onto in case you sell in the future.

Vintage is worth $$.
