You think you know a particular artist's music, when in fact you don't! Alanssaab was at my place the other day, he brought some CD's round with him for me to stick in my iTunes library. The CD's included ZZ Top, and Rory Gallagher. Now, I've seen both live, and listened to them in their respective prime. I would have said I knew their stuff, but man I'm sooo wrong. ZZ Top have been blowing me away for the last 24 hours, I had no idea just how good they were/are, shockaroonie  As for Rory, I always knew this man was talented. But again I didn't realise just how good he was (stay away from booze kids), this guy must have been born blue. I'm going to watch " Rory Gallagher, The Complete Rockpalast Collection" now, it's been a real education (musically) these past few days. Any of you had your eyes opened lately? I should say ears opened

That's a cool story. You hear so often that an artists best stuff is some of the stuff that you don't hear and it can be very true. ZZ Top is a great example. I'm not a huge fan but if you think that you know what they're all about because you know Legs and Sharp Dressed Man than you are sadly mistaken. I had a very closed mind until I started playing and I've taken a chance on a few artists and it has opened my eyes. Enjoy your new discoveries!

I was giving Joe Satriani a fresh listen a few days ago. Never going to be my thing, but I did find myself saying: "You know what? He's quite good, isn't he...?"

Cheers - C

It happened for me a couple of years back with Snowy White, Snowy
That guy has done some great albums that blew me away.
Some of my favourites and recommended listening :-

1. Keep Out We Are Toxic
2. Little Wing
3. No Faith Required
4. Restless
5. The Way It Is

He is a stylish player, a bit like Peter Green for those who haven't heard his work.
Very Cool. 8)

BTW Snowy, yeah ZZ Top I know what you mean. Their early stuff 'Deguello' what a classic album and plenty of others too.
Nice 8)

It is great to go back and sift through an artist whole back catalog to find the real gems when all you knew where the popular hits. The last 2 guys I took apart both happened about 10 years ago and were Gary Moore and Jeff Beck.

I had my ears opened to Lenny Breau Monday after the 2 album CD I got of him came in the mail.In the liner notes Dominic Troiano recounts a story of about one time he was stood outside a Toronto club when fabulous guitar playing spilled out onto the sidewalk and the guy he was talking to remarked how fantastic the guys inside sounded. When he went into the club there was Lenny playing all by himself doing the guitar parts of three people.Chet Atkins said at the time that Lenny was the greatest guitarist in the world, now that's what you call accolades.

very cool Snowy, for me it would be eyes as I have been checking out Anime lately and found that I like that style of art even more than I did when I started watching in the old Aeon Flux days.

Nirvana.... i cant tell you how many people ive met who say they love them yet they dont know anything but Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are, and maybe, on rare occasions, Heart Shaped Box..... their best stuff is just about unkown to most, a lot of really good out takes and demos

People are the same with my favourite band Guns N' Roses, especially young people who only know the post Stradlin days and all they see of Slash is the parody he has become of himself.

Anyone who says they don't like them hasn't heard The Garden, You Aint The First, Think About You, Locomotive and many others. The just know Sweet Child etc. Songs that are overplayed to death.

i have a question.... im a HUGE AC/DC and, obviously, Nirvana fan.... both have a lot of unrelease/hard to get songs, and they tend to be the best songs. do GNR fans have the same dilema?

They do indeed mate. So many! Use Your Illusion was 30 songs and over 50 were recorded for it. I have a load of unreleased stuff that I wish were done back in the day. Really good stuff too. They are the same as any band, everyone just knows the hits but to a fan those are usually the songs we don't like. Album tracks and unreleased tracks are the way to go for me.

I saw ZZ Top in concert in 1982. Now prior to the concert I knew of their "pop music" but I was unaware of the full scope of their catalogue. The concert was one of the best that I have ever attended and made me a life long ZZ Top fan. I am with you Snowy!
