I wish I could explain why but the G string seems to be something that a lot of people have issues with. Someone will know why but I'm sure that you'll get a lot of funny posts about it regardless of whether you actually find out the answer or not. :D

I once saw a hilarious Joe Walsh Guitar lesson video where he went into that. He basically said while going over tuning, that if this string is out, you're gonna sound like crap. But in his endearing drunken Joe Walsh way.

Try a wound G string and see if you still have the problem.

I presume that you're currently using a plain G string?

Jeebus man no apologies req'd, just a nudge on where to look while you wait on the more experienced members to get back to you, nor as fhopkins said are there any stupid questions, myself I think your to be congratulated on having a go at getting to know your own gear, hope you find the solution, nothing worse than your Pride & Joy singing out of tune

Hi Jeebus, does your guitar have staggered polepieces in the pups? If so they could be too close and causing magnetic pull which will put your string so far out that no amount of intonating will remedy it.Try lowering the pups and see if that helps.I take it the G string isn't old or dead,I have occasionally bought new strings and found 1 or even 2 dead ones.A wound G may also help as has been suggested D'Addario makes a 10-46 set with a .18 G string that's quite easy to bend.Hope some of this info helps.

Just take it into a pro tech and get it done correct. I am sure it is nothing serious and why keep banging your head against the wall guessing what it is.

as usual, all great info that i will put to use. my pup is a seymor shr-1b and it's not set high at all. no, my g isn't wound so i'll try that if i can't get it sounding right. i'll also try another g string and see if that one is out also.
yes, it is frustrating. i played it for the 1st time last week at practice and my bros said it sounded great, even with the slight g sring problem. jeez, thet didn't even notice. me, i'm particular. i have 3 other guitars but i want to play the strat since the other guitar is a gibson. good blend i think.
coolest forum on the planet. thanx

miami mike. thanx man. my strat is back in tune and i'm digging the piano wires. i never thought i'd like the higher gauge strings this much. i saved 35 bucks with your simple solution. this is another reason why i love this forum. thanx again.
