Hey everyone,

I try and do most of my guitar work on my own. I haven't been doing it very long since I only stared playing 2 years ago. I have the Fender Strat Handbook by Paul Balmer and I find it full of great information. What I can't find in it is a check list if you will about an order for the steps involved in tracking down and eliminating buzzing strings. I know that there are numerous reasons that a guitar will have buzz to it and that's why I want to know what to do in order that I can start eliminating non issues so that I can deal with the problems. My biggest fear is that I may start with an easily adjustable issue and instead of dealing with that I try to adjust something else in an attempt to rectify the situation and instead it becomes much worse. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Before you start readjusting the setup on you guitar, check to see how you are pressing your fingers on the fretboard. Sometimes a bad habit is not always noticeable.

Location: The Alpha Quadrant.
Step one would def be the bad habits as mentioned, next I would check where the fret buzz is most noticeable, what strings and where on the board its happening the most, then it would be a case of saddles and/or bridge height and finally the truss rod at a last resort.

Good to know. I can't imagine that with my pristine playing that I could possibly be at fault though  I have been slowing down my playing lately and working up to speed on songs and that alone has helped my playing immensely. I appreciate the quick responses.
