You never heard the phrase " what goes around comes around" Riley, your gonna end up one day with a house full of kids and their sole aim in life will be to piss you off, or , your gonna meet a teacher whose gonna piss all over you till you scream, teachers have a hard enough time teaching the few kids that want to learn these days, your day will come when you'll be saying I wish I'd whatever, think of it this way, you become a successful musician you go to a gig you dreamt of doing and a group of prats just yadda yadda yadda all the way through what was going to be the best gig ever, not a lecture Riley just facts 8)

For what it's worth Riley you seem like a very cool kid. You're outspoken on here and you deal with things that most people don't and you do it quite well IMO. I have no reason to believe that you can't have a lot of fun in your remaining school years. You have to pick your battles when it comes to parents and school.

Think of school like the guitar: you get out of it what you put into it. Playing scales and arpeggios all day every day would get pretty boring. But they are fundamental skills for other, more interesting aspects of playing. It's the same with school. There's a lot of "scales and arpeggios" but if you approach it with a broader vision, you may find those boring parts will open up some pretty interesting vistas down the road.

For instance, you are on this board so you clearly have a passion for music. Try relating that interest to history. Move beyond the school's curriculum and read history that relates to music. You'll find all that stuff weaving in and out of the "boring" history you have to study in class and suddenly things start to get more interesting because they relate to you -- and you'll probably end up understanding and appreciating music even more for the effort.

Music theory is all about the relationship between frequencies and their perception by the human brain. Well, there's some good math and physics there when you get to waveforms, and you've also got biology (neuroscience) right there you could dig into.

Computers? Sheesh, music composition and recording is awash with computers and software these days. Plenty of directions you could go there.

Shorter version: look beyond the boring stuff and see how it can relate to your interests. You'll find it usually can, but just like guitar, there's just a certain amount of fundamentals you have to grunt through to get to the good stuff.
