Well, it's not my first original song or the first time I've recorded anything. But it is the first time I actually wrote a song with lyrics and got someone to sing it for me. :D I have a deadline, so it won't be pro quality. Just live into a four track (or an eight track, if I can figure out how to work it). And for once it won't just be me playing everything, there will be a singer/acoustic guitarist and possibly a drummer. If not I'll have to record the drum track and the bass track myself. It's a slow blues, with a surprise. Maybe two surprises, if I can get that eight track working.

Anyway, I'm really excited about it. Hopefully I'll be able to post it soon so that y'all can hear it. I'm even going to get a copyright for it, so it'll be all official and everything.

Oh yeah, and the coolest part is that the singer liked it so much his band (which is my band now too, I'm the newest member) is going to record it professionally on their next CD! My Dad plays bass in that band too. Now I just need to teach him to play blues.

Well, it's done! We started recording at about 7:30 and finished at 10:30. I played rhythm guitar, lead guitar and bass. I had an actual drummer and an actual singer to help me out. I wish we had a keyboard player to lay down an organ track, but I don't know anyone who could. We did get the eight track working, which gave us some flexibility.

It actually does sound pro quality, it's amazing. The only recordings I've ever heard of myself are either live or through the amp modeling and effects software on my computer. Never like this. It's kind of scary in a way, it's sounds like an actual song from an actual record.

Since my Dad didn't know how to work the eight track very well we couldn't do any overdubs, and even though we recorded one instrument at a time it really sounds live. Even if we could overdub, I probably would have left some of the mistakes in anyway. I kind of wish I had made less mistakes, but oh well. :P
I felt like I made my best effort, and played the best I possibly could at this point in time and that's really all I can ask for. :)

But despite lacking the ability to overdub, my Dad did figure out the whole thing as we went, and there is no way we could have done it without him so I'm very happy with it and very glad he did what he did. I really am going to get it a copyright, so I might record a few more before I do that now that we have the eight track 90% figured out. After that, then I'll just post all of them. :D

I wouldn't get my hopes up too much, it's not that brilliant. :P But it's mastered now! We added some reverb and it made a huge difference. I wish I could overdub on a couple of parts, but I managed to take out the most glaring mistake just by using the slider to turn the volume down for a second.

The singer is really diggin' it, which is great since we were using his board at his house. There may be some more songs out on the horizon. :D

Really.

The self-deprecating is, I'm not sure what I'm trying to, You aren't going to do that around any one but really really good friends, are you?

Bros, a little help.

Skills in the control room, excellent!

Sounds like you have found a singer who comes prepared. I have thought recently of song writers Hall and Oates and Jule Styne, great songs from those writers and AC/DC and Roller and Mick and Keith and,
Texas thanks for keeping us posted.
