Here's one I'll not be trying soon. You have to sign a waiver to get it and wear protective gear just to handle the stuff.

I used to eat firey hot food but have completely gone off it,I can't ttolerate hot food at all any more.I used to sit and watch TV with a jar of pickled Jalapenos and a bowl of cream cheese for dip but can't touch it now.Now for a public service message:One day while cutting up some Scotch Bonnet peppers I had to go to the bathroom for a tinkle and forgot to wash my hands before hand, what happened next was the most horrendous burning sensation I ever had. When cutting hot peppers always wear rubber gloves or wash your hands Well ,real Well after.

I taught a class on capsicum, and hot peppers a while back.
I remember this one smarta$$ in the class who thought he knew better.
He wasn't much older than I was at the time, and he always made little comments.
Too bad he wasn't listening when I told the class in the kitchen to put on nitrile gloves.....

So after we prepred some dishes and cleaned up, we headed to the class room for some related, (desk work).
As I was reviewing other points on peppers and Scoville units etc; I notice the smarta$$'s face is getting awfully red.
Turns out he touched his junk as well as other parts without a good scrub first. After letting him raise his hand for a good while.....
I sent him to get some first aid.
Served him right.

I love a food that can injure as well as get those endorphins flowing.

Now that is utterly insane.

Perhaps one of my educated friends could help me out. I'm sure that some years ago I saw a tv documentary on how peppers are a natural pesticide. The insect eats the pepper, the heat of the pepper attacks the insects cerebellum and causes paralysis in the insect.

Is it myth or fact? I'd like to know because I've eaten foods that cause the neck/head joint to ache.

Whoever thought dinner would turn into a extreme sport eh?

I did a little digging and it seems that some have tried exactly what you mentioned. The consensus is that it works great on animals that would do damage to your crops or garden but has little affect on insects. Apparently there are some worms and caterpillars that are even known to eat these hot little peppers. Citrous oil seems to be a good one for flying insects though.

Around here, they claim that cayenne pepper flakes will keep the squirrels away.
Never tried it myself.
