I really wonder how they come up with the names on some of these lists they put out.

Personally none of those are even in my top 50.

The key to that is the last 30 years...that's after 1980...not saying the list is perfect, but you have to consider that most of my guitar hero's did thier significant work before 1980.

Hmmm, guitarists who started professionally after 1980...

Well, you can't say Van Halen, debut album in 1978. But SRV and double trouble didn't come out til 1983, so SRV should be on there, and Blizzard of Ozz came out in 1980, so Randy Rhoads technically could be on there. A few more names: Marty Friedman, Dimebag Darrell, Zakk Wylde, Warren Hayes, Derek Trucks, Joe Bonamassa, Josh Homme, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert...

At least they didn't say Madonna ^^ :P

Why does everybody keep knockin' Madonna? I think old Madge looks good with a guitar and she's probably as good as some of them on that list, with her slick one finger chord work.
Lay it on us Madge. You know what I mean. 8)

Jack White? come on now, let's be serious. no offense to the Jack White lovers, but he shouldn't be on this list IMO.

Bonamassa puts White to shame.

It just shows how insignificant guitarists are and how insignificant guitar is in the context of a band these days.

What they've done is gone out and asked the general public who are their top players since 1980.

or who is the "coolest" guitar players since the 80's which produced a list of Pop culture type players known for being cool or part of some cool band rather than their skills.

I can see Johnny Marr and Prince being there but the rest are a stretch.
