This is just amazing, while cutting carrots for a stew Jeff Beck accidentally cut the tip of his index finger clean off. Thank God for modern medicine that they were able to reattach it and all seems to be good. Jeff has also taken no chances and has insured each of his fingers for 700,000 pounds. Check out the article on this site which by the way is a really good one.

OK, I nearly had a heart attack. I'm glad everything worked out. My Mom had a similar incident a few years ago, not fun. And when I was six I stuck my accidentally got my index finger caught in a pasta machine. Luckily it had cheap plastic blades, because if they were metal I wouldn't have that finger anymore. I still think that's probably the most painful thing that's ever happened to me.

that same thing actually happened to a really great sax player i know very recently, to a lesser degree. he plays in a very popular fusion band in MS called Amalgamation. painful i'm sure but the funny thing was the way the story got inflated after being told a few times. he didn't even cut off enough to need reattachment, but by the time i heard it, the whole outermost joint was missing

I had the index finger of my left hand split open when I was trying to stop my mother cutting my hair, at the tender age of 13!!! I got it stiched up in time to still make it to rehearsal with my band. Luckily I didn't know how to play guitar yet, I had it tuned it to open E chord and played one finger barre chords up and down the neck. So it didn't affect my playing at all, only needed one finger, and they were all just as good.
Luckily it healed up just fine, and later I learnt to play using more than one finger. 8)

Always an innovator, maybe he was experimenting with some new concept for 'shredding'.

In all seriousness though, it would have been beyond tragic if something as freakish as this couldn't have been rectified.

Wow, that scared the c#8p outta me. I thought you were gonna report he dropped a flywheel or tranny on it.

Well the good news is, for the next couple of weeks, I'm a better player than Jeff.

Is this for real? First thing I did was check the original post date... OK, not April 1st. I guess it is for real then, and a lesson for all of us! He's only human and i guess any of us could end our guitar playing career in a second with a vegetable knife, hammer or slammed car door.

I'll never take chances with my fingers again since slicing my left thumb with box cutters a few weeks ago.A life altering cut can happen in the blink of an eye so from now on no matter how small or mundane the job,if it involves a sharp tool I put on the work gloves or a chain mesh filleting glove.
