I was just reading some post on Harmony Central and there is a guy Foonky Steve on a mission to have the original Starcaster reissued. It is up to 6 pages now and what looked like it was going to die a fast death has taken on a life of its own as he has already gotten over 1,000 names on a petition.

You can go to http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/fender70sstarcaster/

I figured I would give a hand as he has it all over the place and even got it into the April edition of Guitarist Magazine, the one with Mayer on the cover in the letters section.

I have to say there seems to be a lot of people out there who really loved this ax I sure as hell would like to see a reissue. So anyone who wants to lend some support I think would be doing the right thing considering what he has done without even coming here .

Gibson does limited runs ALL THE TIME....I don't see why Fender doesn't. I signed it. Although I'd rather have an original BUT it would be nice to have rosewood or ebony as an option for the fret board :D

It would be wise for Fender to reissue the Starcaster as a MIM model, if they decide do it. Producing a semi-hollow guitar in their US facility would equal lots of $$$ and would probably be more expensive than an original one. The guy that started the petition is dreaming if he thinks Fender will sell these for the price he thought of. Fender's forte is solidbodies. There is a reason why the original Starcaster is long gone, yet Fender keeps pumping out the Teles and Strats.

I didn't sign the petition. It's the Starcaster's headstock that ruins it for me.

I may get flamed for this but...

It never ceases to amaze me how, "eh" model guitars will fade away but add thirty some odd years to their age and by some supernatural metamorphosis, they become holy grails.

I can't wait to see if Fender caves in on this one and if they do reissue it, how many players will actually buy this model and then how many will promptly proceed to piss and moan about Fender's lack of QC with it.

The contributions to an outhouse do not change after 30 some odd years, they simply get older and lose most of their stink. I believe this is the case here, if you catch my drift (pun intended).

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

Randy Bachman of BTO used a Starcaster on many recordings in the 70s,if I'm not mistaken that's what he used for the jazzy solo in Blue Collar.Fender loyalists have to go to another brand to buy a hollow bodied humbuckered guitar and the Starcaster would be a great and probably cheaper alternative.I'd buy one if they were rereleased and I signed the petition.I have never played a Starcaster but I've heard that the neck and action are very Strat like, for me that fact combined with the sound is reason enough to buy one.

+1

I have nothing against the Starcaster and I would totally love to see a Fender hollowbody.
I agree with Martian that total dogs in their time, like the Marauder and the Coronados suddenly seem so desirable; heck, even the Jagstang that Cobain didn't like in the first place is on the list...

Now, instead of yesterday's dogs, how about bringing proven great guitars, with a history behind them, as the Guild electrics were. At the very least the Starfires and the Bluesbirds...

Martian you beat me to it.
It didn't sell well the first time. Plus it really wasn't really that great of a guitar. The ones I tried seemed to have tuning or neck stability problems. I liked the Coronado a lot more.

To be honest I'd rather see the Coronado (guitar and bass) come back then the Starcaster.... but it still would be cool

Hi Purple, you're right about Guild,I have an S-100(SG type body)that was the guitar used by Kim Thayill of Soundgarden and it's an absolute screamer when put through a cranked Marshall. The S-100 has a phase toggle for the rear pup that really adds to the punch,it has way more raunch than an SG but can also sound twice as mellow for jazz stylings. The Guild pups were used on early BC Richs as Rico thought that they had the best tone available for his guitars and that speaks volumes about their sound.I could see these guitars giving Gibson a run for the money if Fender/Guild rereleased them or some of the other excellent guitars they produced in the past.

You realize, of coarse, that the Starcaster was not only a flop; but a CBS flop to boot.
