I like the Stones version of Walkin' the Dog, but I like SRV's (with the Blackbirds) version even better - I only heard it for the first time last night.

I realise the Stones didn't write Walkin' the Dog, does someone know who released it before them?

Although it's not better than the Beatles version of the song,Rufus Wainwright's cover of Across The Universe is stirring as is Sean Ono Lennon's (with Wainwright on backup vocals)cover of This Boy-he even nailed the high notes with the same angst as his father.

Don't get me wrong, the Tull version is great but I think I like it "heavied up" a bit more.

I just listened to this for the first time. I like the guitar work and the tempo, but the singer's weird pronunciation ruins it for me. "The train, it wan stup goin'..." Huh‽

yeah Blackie mushed the vocals for sure, but I dig it more for the guitars too.

 Why was I never informed of this?!?!?

I like it! Prefer Tull but the guitars are brilliant here!

Also Metallica's version of "Astronomy" was far superior to BOC. I love BOC but Metallica gave that songs the umph it needed.

Whiskey In the Jar is actually an Irish folk song thats hundreds of years old. Metallica's version is horrible IMO.

I aware of it being an old irish folk song.Ive heard it how it was, thin lizzys and metallicas and i think metallicas is the best. Are you a thin lizzy fan then?

Not really bro, I just don't like Metallica's version. Sounds like they are just goin through the motions. A good Irish rock band playing it in a club in Dublin or Belfast is how it should be done. 8)

Its quite good when the dubliners do it, but i still prefer metallicas.
Another one I just thought of was Champagne and Reefer - The Rolling Stones

Hi Big Jay,I had completely forgotten about that cover,it was something else, that was always a favourite song of mine.If my memory serves me correctly that version was used in a movie a few years ago.

As a kid I grew up on a version of Whiskey in the Jar by the Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem. First time I heard Lizzy's version I thought; "WTF...?"

Someone pass me my Aran sweater, please...

Cheers - C

My personal favorite is:

Cibo Matto's cover of "The Candy Man". You probably won't initially recognise it, and it's creepy as hell!
