I heard about this a month ago but didn't think to post it until now. Anyone else hear about it?

I think that would be cool to see them back together. Although they've got to be in their early to late 60's by now they still have a boatload of great music from back in the day.

This is my dad's favorite band :D and he's the one who showed me their music, like the obvious Takin Care of Business, You Ain't Seen Nothin Yet, but there's also songs like Away From Home and Let It Ride. I even got to see them back in about 1998 or so, when I was 7 or 9. I remember much except that there was a large crowd and some stranger picked me up and danced with me. :) :? Kinda weird experience for me, and even weirder to remember just that.

Anyway, what do you think about it?? Would it be something you'd see if they came your way? :) :?:

BTO is fun stuff to play in your own band. However, when I saw them years ago, they played their songs note-for-note from the albums without any extras, improvisation, etc. Good rapport with the audience but it was almost like listening to the singles on the radio.

Hence my might/might not response. I more tend to like artists who respond to the live environment by bringing something (call it intangibles) you can't put on the albums. Unfortunately, they somewhat came across like a tribute group playing BTO and not deviating by a single note.

When did you see them? Because, not to be rude or anything, if you saw them at a concert within 10 years or so ago, they would have been in their fifties to early sixties by then. They probably don't have as much energy and/or count on their audience for a good response. I mean, I don't think many people have the most energy that late in their lives. Eihter that or they maybe didn't enjoy playing concerts? Maybe....Idk that's my thought on that

It was back in the 70s, around 1975. They had a lot of energy (good show as far as that went) and as I said, terrific rapport with the audience. My only real objection was that each song was played literally note for note as they appeared on the singles.

How I knew that was because I was in a band myself at the time - we played several BTO tunes and were familiar with most of them. I later read that this was a deliberate decision on Randy Bachman's part; they weren't a jam band by choice. He's a terrific guitarist but they'd decided not to showcase that on their tours.

It was also the coming thing at the time. Extended "60s style" jams and free-ranging songs were going out with audiences. Most audiences in the clubs and bars I played at that time expected to hear their favorites just like on the radio. More than once did I and others complain that bands were becoming little more than paid juke boxes.

Be that as it may, it was just a bit disappointing to me personally that BTO decided to go the "commercial, play it like the record" route. I can't blame them considering that's how they made their living. And again, they did it with a heck of a lot of energy and respect for the audience. But hopefully that explains my comment where to me they came across almost like a spot-on tribute band playing BTO to perfection.

They will most likely go on tour as part of a classic rock line up arena tour with other bands from around the same era, if not, you'll be able to see them at a bar/club, or county/state fair near you soon...Its the truth...Foreigner, Bret Michaels, the Beach Boys, and more have been doing that stuff for years...

I'd like to see them. They were among many bands back in the 70's that got me interested in playing guitar. :)

they were never a Yes or Genesis, but they actually were quite a lot of fun.
Instrumental virtuosity was never the point.
Good ol get your feet moving to the beat was the idea. Catchy tunes that made the hit parade.
If you check out who they were, remember The Guess Who ??
Would I see them today, maybe, maybe not..

i saw bto in the seventies, and again in the late 80's or early 90's they were great both times. there's some great guitar work on songs like "blue collar" or "lookin' out for number 1".

i saw the guess who in sept. of 01, s weeks after the 9/11 tragedy. randy still played and sang great. i would see them more than likely, provided ticket prices would be fair.

There was a lot of amazing guitar work on some of their songs. Unfortunately, cover bands always play "Takin' Care Of Business" and ignore some of their better tunes.

And yes, I'd love to see BTO!

I saw them in the 70's. I think but I'm not positive that they opened for 10 Years After. They were fun, but I think if I hear "Taking Care Of Business" one more time I'll explode.

I saw the Bachman-Cummings band a few years back and it was a good time. Didn't know that Randy was the one that came up with that intro to "These Eyes".
