My daughter is 6 and taking lessons on a decent kid's size acoustic. She wants an electric guitar; the Squier Strat is too big for her, and I looked at an Epi mini Les Paul which so far as I could see wouldn't stay in tune.
Her acoustic is a half-size, approx 30" guitar. The scale is right for her, so I need something similar in size. The most important thing is that it has to stay in tune, since she is really learning to play.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

you're a great parent :D i started when i was 6 also. my parents bought me a musicmaster, which was a 3/4 size guitar. it was perfect for starting out with.

keep searching- you'll find a 3/4 or mini size for her. it will make life so much easier, and she'll probably practice more.

best of luck to both of you!

Hi Sunburst Blues,1st give yourself a pat on the back for getting your daughter started in music at such a young age,my mother started me on piano at 3 and it stuck for life. The Mini-Strat would be a great choice for a starter guitar and then when she gets a little older you could move on to a 3/4 size Strat or short-scale Mustang,if you keep it Fender you can't go wrong.Keep us posted on her progress.BTW please don't get her into shredding it seems like that's all the kids are doing these days and real soulful playing is going by the wayside.

I am fixing up a yard sale mini strat, for my nephew. They are surprisingly high quality.

I agree the Squier Mini would be the best cheap guitar for small hands.

Ministrat! Just make sure it has a good setup so it doesn't hurt her fingers. And a good strap to distribute the weight. Been trying to find a good used one for my 6 year old. She started on banjo a few years back and acoustic guitar last year. She wants a Hello Kitty but haven't seen any used ones around so thought I'd get her a short scale strat and paint it pink with purple graphics.

My 6 year old has the pink Squier mini hello kitty. She loves it.

Daisy Rock make some decent small scale girly guitars too.
