I'm moving house soon, but the new place still has to be built, so all my stuff, including guitars and amps will have to go into storage for a while. Probably several months.

Is there anything that needs doing to the guitars, like de-tuning slightly, or just leave tuned to pitch. Or any tips?

They will be cased and in shipping cartons, so they should be well enough protected!

There are going to be different answers but I always keep my guitars tuned to pitch or a half step down. Also make sure where they are going to stay would be a temperature that you would find comfortable for yourself as that is the rule I apply- if it is a temperature comfortable enough for me it is comfortable for my guitars. Solid body electrics are more durable than you would think but acoustic guitars can be affected by temperature and humidity change much easier. I am sure someone will post exact numbers.

I would consider placing a desiccant package in the box/case with each amp and guitar to control moisture. Just as an added measure of safety. Cheap insurance against opening a carton and finding something you love all corroded.

You can get the stuff from McMaster-Carr. Here's a link http://www.mcmaster.com/#desiccants/=6iyev0

Good luck with the move! 8)

Thanks for the ideas. I'll probably turn down a half-step or so, and they should be fine with that.

Half step down is a good idea but I had a guitar almost turn to fire kindling bc I had it stored and it dried out something awful. I'd leave it at a buddies house or something where it's climate controlled if possible.
