One of the reasons I absolutely avoid any new music. I only heard of John Mayer, Joe Bonemassa and KWS last year.

Ignorance is utter bliss when it comes to radio.

Why don't we just get rid of rap entirely?

because, real rap can be good.... eminem, big pun, run d.m.c., tupac, early snoop dogg, etc.

there is no such thing as good rap. rap isn't even music in my book.

the only ok rap is the old, original stuff and i'm still not a fan of that. but atleast the old stuff wasnt as provacative.

you my friend are stereotyping..... look up when im gone by eminem, hailey's song by eminem, any run dmc is good, and most eminem is actually meaningful, be it a true story, or fictional like the song stan, eminem doesnt just rap about sex and killing people..... i used to have the exact same thoughts about rap

and what tells you that? you havnt heard any songs about his daughter or his drug addiction have you? his lyrics are just as meaningful as anything cobain, staley, or cantrell have ever put out..... again, try haileys song and when im gone..... haileys song is about his daughter hailey and how much she means to him and the legal battle for custody between him and his ex-wife..... when im gone is about how his career tore his family apart.... saying hes not meaningful just tells me you dont know what youre talking about and that youve only heard my name is and the real slim shady.... seriously, hes the most meaningful rapper there is dude

i guess we all have are own preception of meaningful lyrics. i guess we should agree to not agree and leave it with that. arguing about something silly like this on this forum wont get us anywhere. so like i said, lets put this behind us and agree that both of us in our own mids think we are right and the other is wrong and try to steer this thread back towards the way the OP probably wanted this thread to be like.

There's a reason it's called "(C)rap" !

Why put even the slightest effort into learning how to play an instrument, or take singing lessons? The inner city and suburban youth that adore, emulate and now mimic "that" culture espoused in the predominantly violent, anti-social, lyrics do so because it's EASY ! You don't even need to speak what most recognize as "English", mutterings of garbled sub-culture "speak" suffice.

The mantra of teens today has become "Why do ANYTHING it if it takes effort ?" "It's too hard", "I want to start at the top".

What are we to expect from a generation who according to recent polls would rather be a "go-fer", a "hangers-on" or a "personal assistant (drug mule)" to a "celebrity" rather than a doctor, scientist ?

Tanner, you are right-rap Is Not Music-no more than the"beat"poetry of the 50s and 60s was when you had a guy reciting poetry about the current state of affairs to the beat of a guy playing bongos. The addition of samples of music created by talented musicians does not make it music or make them musicians. Some of them may well be gifted poets but what they do is not music and they have no business calling themselves musicians no more than a lip syncer does.

Eminem uses music samples to me that sound like they are from childrens shows. I have listened to him whenever there was an awards show and will admit he has a way with words but I could actually do the same thing and write a whole rap album and give it to some kid to rap, in fact I find it quite easy and humorous. All you have to do is think of a topic, lets take prison and I will actually sit here and come up with a few lines.

They took my body but they cant take my mind I'm a name and a number in a cage doing time. Thugs, drugs 9mm slugs-----

Now that took me about 5 minutes to come up with and is just playing with words. Not exactly rocket science.lol

Theres one rap band that I have always thought were a great pop act.

Eye Know

Great use of melodies to a constant beat. No gutteral utterings or profanity.

Heres one that perfectly sums up my feelings towards modern white rap.
