Thanks Andy!!!

Here is the new workbench my inlaws gave me for my b-day.
They heard I was starting this project and picked this up for me.
Image
Today we sanded the demo ash board we are using to sample our dyes on.
Image
I hit it witth an 80 grit down to a 220. In between I used the orbital and worked down to the sand paper by hand. The crappy block sander I had broke.
After we sand we will wipe it down, I keep my old socks as rags....Don't worry I washed them....... So it won't be a Smell-O-Caster.
Image

*****I was told that when dyes catch the grain of the wood (for a sunburst effect) it is suggested to use an exacto knife to make a shallow line in the wood for the dye to follow. I'm not sure how many others have used this technique......so PLEASE Chime in with any advice. :D****************

Image

After using the formula for concentration, we mixed the powder with the suggested amount of Denatured Alcohol.
Image
Here they are in the light. :P :P :P :P
Image
Here we have the taped off sections of the board. Each is numbered so we can hit it with some glass finish polyurethane to make sure it is what we want.
This is also a fail safe. I am no expert.
So if we apply the dyes and we don't like it, I can always try something else.
Image

The neck came today so we are good there....finally!!
More to follow soon.

I am on some pain medication today so no beer or liquor as a reward......meh.

Hi BN!

Glad you like the pic. I didn't know Gary Coleman was ill at the time I posted that. I believe the Hoff is in good health though. :D

Man that is a BIG sock! I'm sure there's a witty saying that would fit here but i just can't remember how it goes...

Good choice of colours, looking forward to see how your tests come out.

Andy

Thanks again Andy! I have faith in you, that your project's minor hiccup is just that....just a minor hiccup.

Thanks Irish Mike, I will try and get to some of this sooner than later.
The weather and time here for me havent been cooperating w/ me.
Soooo I will post a few of the pick guards I am looking at.

Please let me know what you all think would look the best....

I am leaning towards this one.

It is a microfiber image on a plastic pickguard.

hehe Actually with what you are planning, I kind of think the black one might be better.
With a Tele I'm of the mind that a funky paint goes with a more conservative guard, where as conservative paint might leave more room for fun on the guard. but i think on yours the paint is going to be the star of the show, and the Mamoguard might be too distracting.

Hi BN!

I'm with you on the black one, but the green is a very close second.

Buy the one with the kitty on anyway!

Enjoy!

Andy
