Thanks everyone for the good mojo.
Just a big mess...I won't elaborate.
My travels werent all bad. I hit a swap meet and found 2 old MIJ guitars the lot set me back 20$..... from the 60's (Tesco and Polaris). The Polaris has vintage Gibby Deluxe tuners on it...very lucrative purchase I think.
I will post a pic in a post and everyone can let me know what they think they are in terms of dating.
They are quite nice....the tuners that is the guitars are pretty ratty.

So.......back to the guitar at hand.
I will get my bearings and post the sample wood and document the practice in staining soon.
Thanks for bearing with me on this throughout the B.S. -N 8)

I ordered the body from reddirtguitars.com, they have some really beautifull bodies. As my woodworking skill is limited I had to buy this one. Not sure what the code means, probably a model sku for ordering.
My foot always ends up in my guitar pics somehow  . BTW that isn't nail polish on my toes. I dropped a cabinet corner on the first two. They are soon on their way from red to black... ouch.-N 8)

Can I get a check on that website that you ordered the body from? All i can see is their "Custom" guitars that they do with some graphics over some cheap Chinese made guitars...

I can - but better still, so can you. Those little bits will easily glue back in with some slightly watered down aliphatic glue (Titebond Original). Even easier if you haven't pulled them right off already. And then - two necks for the price of one. Bingo! :D

BTW: for once the search facility lead me straight to the page I was looking for. Here's Orville on toes:

Shall we all post pictures of our feet...?

 - C

Am i right in assuming the problem is with the frets and not the chipping around truss rod hole?

Andy, my mate!
Things havent been great to say the least. Haven't been around here in a while.

I did just notice you are building in the Strat section! I all following that post like a hawk. Can't wait see the finished product there. I will have some time to work on the Tele this afternoon (hopefully).
I feel bad for not having anything for this post.

Try this link
http://www.reddirtguitarworks.com/mm5/m ... _Code=RDGW

Not sure what all that other graphics and crap are on the site.
The body I bought is MIA and not representative of all that blather. I know they are on Ebay and that's were I got mine.

Alright. After a friendly boot to the arse from Andy..... :D
I don't want to appear to be a totally lazy sod......so I will start with a few things for today.

Every Chef has his/her Mise En Place....dig the knife holder?
We have the dyes, funnel, scissors, and bottles complete with scale.
Image
Image

Here is the our "sample board" of hardwood ash.
**Please note the foot shot I took for Ceri....    *
I bought this online from a farm in upstate New York. for $17 w/ shipping.
Image
We are going to sand this puppy down to a nice 220 grit.
After getting this nice and smooth and ready to accept our dyes. I will then measure out our dyes and mix them up with the Denatured Alcohol.
Image
Included in my purchase were some samples......
Image
Concentrated colors (conc.) will make twice as much as above mixture chart, it's twice as strong of a powder.

*These dyes are ideal for all staining applications, especially figured woods.*

Here is the mixing formula per the instructions.
1 ounce of powder in 1 pint = 6.25% solution - highly concentrated
1 ounce of powder in 1 1/2 pint = 4.16% solution
1 ounce of powder in 2 pints = 3.125% solution
1 ounce of powder in 4 pints = 1.56% solution - wash coat

All stains can be dilluted to obtain the desired darkness.
Boy this is exhausting work.!!!.....
My cat Shiloh thinks so.

So tomorrow we will get some sanding and dye mixing accomplished.

In keeping with the tradition of rewarding ourselves with a nice beverage....

..more to come...........-N8)

Heh, it appears to only be available as part of the knife set.

I have more knives than I have any use for already. maybe I'll make something.
