Have them reconed, that way you keep it original. Just a suggestion. Welcome to the forum ....................... 8) Mike

Both my TRs are JBL-equipped. K120s in my re-issue, D120Fs in my silverface. They do clean with a capital "C".

I go along with the reconing idea but I also have a JBL K 120 in my Leslie Model 16 and it could take all 135 W of my Peavey Deuce and not break up,either way would be good but if they are the original old speakers it would probably be better to get them reconed.

Well, having the speakers re-coned is certainly an idea however I would also add to make sure you have it done by someone who is qualified and -KNOWS- what they are doing with vintage speakers! Not every electronics shop that does re-cones actually does a good job.

Now as far as replacements go, personally I would recommend either Eminence or Jensen myself. If money weren't an object then I'd go with Jensen...that's really part of what made those early Fenders sound the way they did. In fact my -only- gripe about Jensen speakers is the price...those new Jet series for example are going for over $300 a speaker! I'm sure they're worth it but yikes I say, YIKES!! If you're on a budget however, Eminence is a -great- brand. Over the years they have made speakers for most of the big amp company's out there including Fender, Peavey, Ampeg, Marshall, GK, Crate and Kustom just to name a few. In fact when the Twin reissues first hit the market back in the 80's they came with Eminence speakers for the first couple of years until Jensen started making guitar speakers again.

I'm not saying JBL's...or even Celestions, EV's or most other brands are "bad" by any means (although I would draw the line at Pyle and Radio Shark) but if you really want to stick with that "real" Fender tone we all know and love from a Twin, either get the originals properly re-coned or stick with either Jensen or Eminence.

Just my $.02 worth as always,
Jim

Celestions, Jensens, and JBL are hard to beat for any amp.

Ernestorta,if you do decide to get new speakers whatever you do don't toss out the old ones as you could get them reconed down the road. I've seen old JBLs etc. in need of reconing going for pretty big money on ebay especially K-120s and the like.
