So many of the jazz artists that brought jazz guitar to the fore have gone or have become too feeble to play,it's a real pity.I remember reading articles about Herb Elliis and other jazz greats in Guitar Player Magazine back in the 70s and although I'not a fan of jazz it sparked my interest in jazz guitar and when I heard guys like Herb and Joe Pass I developed a huge respect and appreciation of their playing. These guys make shredders look like tone deaf hacks.God Bless you Mr. Ellis say hello and thanks to Les for me.

I second this. My guitar instructor was lucky enough to study with Herb and taught me a lot about Mr. Ellis. Class act guy and a great great guitar player. May he rest in peace. Say hello to Les, Wes and Barney for us.

One of my favorites. Never lost his bluesy feel and phrasing. Great tone and musicality.

R.I.P Herb you will be missed.

Guitslinger what you said reminds me of a story that happened to me about 20 years ago. I had called for a car service car and got into it with my guitar in a gig bag when the driver who was in his late 60s started talking gear with me. It wound up he had played in the pits on Broadway for 40 years and had done over 500 recorded sessions. I was really intrigued and very impressed and asked him why he was driving car service and he said he could not play anymore. I ashed him why and he said Arthritis and held up his hands which looked like someone broke everyone of his fingers as they were bent every which way. To be honest it scared the $@!& out of me, and who would think that at 48 I have all kinds of problems that I can barely play at all these days.

I know where you're coming from Straycat,I told the rheumatologist that I'd rather have both legs amputated that loose the use of one of my hands. He told that my cholesteral meds were most likely causing my hand pain but I gave them up over a week ago and still have pain after playing just a few minutes,it's not quite as bad as it was but still bad. Hang in there I'm in your corner.
