In all the reading and researching vintage guitars its always, yeah 62 reissue, 65 reissue, 68 reissue etc etc. Nearly every Fender model has a magic number for reissue that everyone lusts after, but I have never really heard the term '67 reissue kicked about much.

What was Fender doing during 1967? Why is there lots of lust for 66 & 68 reissues but no 67? Was the factory tripped out on cups of tea and Sgt Pepper that year?

It was by '67 that CBS had pretty much exhausted their existing stock of Pre-CBS parts. CBS was then essentially on their own where they were getting busy modifying and redesigning per their, "big picture" of what the new, "CBS Fender" would be all about and it wasn't until '68 that these changes were ready, available and implemented into their 'new and improved' line (for better or for worse).

I believe that '67 was the year that Fender re-did the wiring on the Telecasters and took out the .1 cap from the neck pup?

I'd agree with Martian -- by 1967 a number of QC/QA issues began to surface as production was ramped up to meet corporate production quotas. I do credit the CBS era for a couple of different reasons: A) they gave the Jazz Bass its "tuxedo" neck with inlaid-block markers and binding, and B) they introduced the drip-edge silverface cosmetics across the amp line. I love that look and all of those amps produced in '67 and most of '68 still retained their blackface (ie: AA764, AB165, AB763, etc) circuit revisions. That said, I'd love to find a nice Strat or Jazzmaster from '67...especially one in Sea Foam Green or Ice Blue Metallic.
