My personal preference is Rosewood or Ebony. admittedly i have spent more time playing on those types then maple when i went to buy a new guitar i tried maple (with gloss) and didn't like the feel.

Rosewood though an unfinished Maple neck would be my #1 preference, just dont have one on a Fender.

I take into consideration how many post someone has when I see these questions. I think we all know what it is like to be a noobie and not know your way around.

I like maple, as I have never played a rosewood.

Sorry for the repost of what I have found out to be a worn out subject. Interesting, at least I think so. I do think it is at least a more appropriate subject than some of the total trash posted here at times.

Sorry Riley, correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that a rosewood board on your Strat in your sig pic and don't you own an SG?

I might be wrong but....

Hey Riley, does your mom take those pictures of you posing with the guitar? (just takin the mickey mate).

Pbass how do you like them Marshall bass amps? Marshall never really took off in the bass range. Though I do like the look of lemmy's murder1 tribute. Thats gotta be the only bass sound I've ever wanted to emulate on my guitar.

Actually, the neck on my Strat is one piece save for the stripe covering the truss rod cavity. The headstock, neck, and "fretboard" have no seams. It's solid maple. 8)

I got a chance to play one of those Lemmy bass heads at an after-party one night, they are ferocious. I was using a Fender mind, a Rick would have completed the set.

Didn't Lemmy start off using Marshall guitar amps?

I always preferred the look and feel of maple either nice and white or amber tinted. But I just bought my first Strat and it is rosewood mostly because of how I liked the contrast of daphne blue and rosewood.

rookie comments. I have rosewood, ebony and maple. I prefer the maple, but esthetics has a lot to do with it. My fingers don't notice any difference in the 3. I don't think my ear is sophisticated enough to hear any difference. And I suspect the shape of the neck my be influencing my decision to a degree. Hey whatever makes you play more is the right wood.

I thought it was always that superbass 100. He used it from hawkwind on. He used to roadie for Jammy Hen Tricks so perhaps he had it off Redding.

I didn't know that at all. I thought he used guitar amps and then Marshall modded one for him to take a bass better. The sig head is powerful though, try one if you can. So far thats the only one I've seen about.

Sorry for the off-topic guys, back to it!
