Certainly not the best guitar player.. and not top10... But some of the earlier 70's videos I have seen of Jerry Garcia have impressed me...

And by all means I am NOT a dead fan.. Never liked them...

Ry Cooder came to mind as I was writing Rocco. The "Paris Texas Soundtrack" is a favorite.

Another to consider:

Ryan Adams
Check him out here

Have any of you heard of Joanne Shaw Taylor? She's not one of the greats yet... But wait a few years.

I can't stop watching her videos. Every guitarist I know is in love with her!

Brilliant.

This guy has everyone beat. He is probably the most accomplished rock guitar player of all time: Steve Howe of Yes. The guy can play every stringed instrument ever made, he can play any style of music, he is extremely knowledgeable in all areas of music theory and rhythm signatures, his music catalog spans 40+ years, and he plays beautifully.

+1

Yup agree with Steve Howe, Jan Akkerman has to be on a par with him though in all styles

Chris Shiflett, he's a very great guitarist. Was just looking up some infomation on him, he seems to be a very good guitarist.

Terry Kath - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BxZ3_7kk00, this solo is one of the best I've ever heard. Jimi Hendrix once said that "he was good, but that guy Terry Kath blows me out of the water!"

Martin Barre - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqZmtq5LhFo, this is a great solo also. Barre always never got enough credit in my opinion becuase Jethro Tull isn't a big guitar-based band.

I couldn't disagree more.

There's not a guitarist living or dead who can top Angus' vibrato or his taste when it comes to solos.
