i have a whole book of guitar greats.... many of the blues guitarists mentioned are overlooked but theres just to many to name..... also, i think Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains, while famous, does not get all the credit he should

Would totally agree about jerry.
Carolyn Wonderland seems good too from what I have heard so far.
I think James Root is another. listening to the leads and rythyms he does in slipknot, but more so in stone sour where he can be more free with his playing. his playing usually gets overshadowed by mick thompson similarly as hetfield is overshadowed from hammet.

Some of you old-timers will remember these guys... and the rest of the band. They were awesome... and still are. Played here about a year ago. 8)

Rusty Young

Richie Furay

Not sure of his name but the guitarist who always played with Croce was quite talented as well, he always knew just where to be in order to stay right in sync with Jim.

His name was Maury Muehlelsen and he was an awesome acoustic player! Listen to the "I Got A Name" album and you'll hear some fantastic guitar. 8)

Charlie Christian who arguably was the first guitar soloist in popular music. He often took solos with Benny Goodman and worked with a few other big band leaders. Before him, guitar was mostly seen as either a rhythm instrument or restricted to rural, folk and western music.

If you like slide guitar: Rocco DeLuca, along with guitar chops, his vocal abilities are rivaled by very few.

Along the slide guitar line, probably well known to most on the forum but not people in general -- Ry Cooder. Amazing career, but not a household name.
