Do you use a digital recorder? (Example, a Zoom H2.) If you use a digital recorder, what type do you use?

zoom h2.

Though I am having a little bit of difficulty with the mic' gain.
I just hit record and play away at home, with the thing next to the amp on low gain setting. it works great for that.
I try to record a gig with it on the same low gain mic' setting and the recording is too quiet. Up the gain any and it's too much.

I have been using one of the M-Audio microtraks for at least 3 or more years. It has a rechargeable battery, just plug USB cable into AC converter. It also has a limiter and boost. Comes with a small stereo mic. I used it weekly for over two years, then it would no longer retain charge, so call M-Audio, they issued return, and in a week sent me a new microtrak II at no charge. I recently picked up a better Tascam stereo mic on stupid deal of the day, and it greatly improved the signal-to-noise ratio. They can be had for around $150. Not a bad setup for live recordings or practice sessions, download file directly to Audacity for processing.

Tascam DR-07. Works very well and I could not be happier with it.

Boss BR-864 for portability, but use software most times.

Boss has a new BR-800 that's new.

My gut feeling is that in 10 years, most will be using software and you'll see a lot of the stand alone recorders on the bay, except for the handheld ones for sketchpad ideas.

Riley, get a 1/8" adapter (RadioShack - $5) and run your cable from your headphone out to your computer into Windows Sound Recorder.

If it sounds okay with that...download Audacity (free) and you'll be recording before you know it!
