I have a 2007 Strat that i installed LACE Sensor Hot Gold pickups in. in my bridge pickup i'm not picking up my High strings as much as i'd like.

I've read that if you lower your pickups you get more sustain but less volume, and if you raise them, you get more volume but less sustain...

What should i do?....Should i lower them evenly and just turn my amp up? or should i raise the higher end higher than the low end side.

I'm so confused.....

The pickups should be higher toward the thinner strings. You can have a uniform distance from the top of the pickup to the bottom of the string (Lace recommends .17 inches) but because the strings get thinner, you have to increase the height of the pickup.

Every type of pickup differs along with the variables of string size and the customers preferred action. When I do setup its play and listen from the makers recommended point and adjust. If no recommended starting point its all know how where to start. Which is what I do most times.

Do a search on the Forum for my thread on "Nickel Method", use that as a starting point for your pickup height. Fine tuning to what sounds good to your ears from there is all that is needed.

My Strats all have the pickups down almost even with the pickguard.

I won't try to pickup anybody unless she's at least 5'4". I think short women are cute but I like a taller dancing partner... and then later...

OH... sorry! Wrong topic!

+1 on the nickel method

Plan B: lower the pups all the way to the pickguard and adjust up in small increments until your ears tell you to stop.
