Has anyone had a breakthrough moment in thier playing that you knew at the time was taking something to the next level.

I had one last night by finally learning a tune that I always wanted to play but didn't think my skills were up to it! :)

Oh yeah man, what a wonderful feeling! I makes it somehow all worth it eh?! I mean, you always know that "it's" (all the perserverance) is certainly worth it, but ah, how those moments do so very much indeed to bolster one's faith that it's going to keep getting better, if we just stay the course. Then, if we pay attention, and care about the right things, we get to look back and see how we've managed to do something so very worthwhile with the God given talent we have been blessed with the privilege of having.

recently I have been progressing with my knowledge of the fret board/barre chords and soloing over blues progressions, which is a major step forward for me because I have had a lot of trouble learning barre chords and how and where on the fret board to go in order to solo over a basic blues progression.

I used to get a great feeling of accompishment when I figured out any Hendrix lick/effect that I'd been trying to figure out such as the feedback intro to Foxey Lady or the sound effect/harmonic etc. he used in Star Spangled Banner or Machine Gun.It feels great when you nail a tone/riff you've been chasing for ages.

I've had a few breakthroughs but with my limited playing career they've been rather small. For me it was the ability to learn basic riffs within the span of watching a 5 minute video. I found a cool youtube teacher named Marty Schwartz and ran through a bunch of his videos in a week a while back and I learned so much new stuff that it made me feel like I was progressing. It gave me the confidence to start learning the blues from the ground up and I'm loving it.

I believe that moment is still to come..

I do believe one of my most defining moments in playing is the moment i stopped caring about being perfect and started to feel what i was playing more than thinking about what i was playing....

if that makes any sense.

OH and when i didn't have to look where i was on the fretboard all the time.

I've found that I feel a big jump about every 4-5 months. No explaination for it......just notice that all of a sudden, many things are so much easier for me, and feels natural. Then I stay at that point for another 5 months. Also only happens when I'm practicing regularly. If I slack up.....then I'm playing catch up again.

It's funny how you try and try and try... then one day... it clicks! The light comes on and you've finally gotten something you might have thought was out of your ability to grasp. I have such a long journey ahead of me... I'll never finish it. But the trip will be a blast! 8)

I was working on a song recently when I realized, "Hey, I'm not looking at the strings!"

A small victory, but a victory nonetheless. 8)

Haha, I've had that breakthrough a few times when I'm learning a new riff or something, and each time it happens, I can't help but smile.

I haven't had any recent "breakthroughs" lately, though, other than coming up with a simple blues riff. It sounds really nice to me, and I'll probably keep adding to it as time goes on. :D

Last night as I was sitting around and playing I really let loose and blasted through every riff and song in my guitar playing library and it was easily my proudest moment playing so far. I've had days when I've played really well and other days when fretting Em feels like a struggle but it's been a couple of weeks straight of really playing well for me now. Playing well is a relative term but it just made me feel so happy when I tucked my pretty little silver and maple girl back into her bed. I think I have some mojo going from my Hendrix guitar strap that my girls got me for Easter so I'll send a big thanks his way too :D . That said it also showed me my limitations and made me know that I'm ready for the next step. I've been expanding my playing with the blues and it actually feels now like I can pick up things much more quickly than I was able to in the past. It's just a good feeling to have your hard work show itself once in a while. Onward and upward!

when jingle bells actually sounded like jingle bells

when row, row, row your boat using Carter style picking actually sounded like row, row, row your boat

when house of the rising sun sounded just like house of the rising sun being played by a middle aged, caucasian accountant... but I liked it.

when my best girl asked me to play wild thing, and for me to sing along as well.... I put all my heart into that one
