i dont get the guy-- he is a great guitarist, and he plays blues well, he is respected amongst guitarists, but then he releases some of the biggest crap you would ever want to hear-- i guess he figures he needs to get paid, which i understand, the ladies and the teenyboppers are making him rich --
more power to you if you like him-- i just cant at this point

Just this past weekend I was thinking that John Mayer is a great lyricist. Doesn't matter if you like the actual music the lyrics are very creative and pretty darn good.

I actually committed myself to listening to his new album all the way through on a flight home recently. Painful experience to say the least. How anyone can consider this guy with his prepackaged predictable BS lyrics to be a "great lyricist" is unexplainable. What exactly about the songs and lyrics he writes is so great?

Like I said before you John Mayer haters need to give it a rest. If you all spent half as much time practicing your own guitar skills as you do bagging on him, you would be good guitarist instead of the at home hack players that most of you are. Besides the original poster was merely sharing his or her excitement about having seen someone they like live. I don't see why any of you haters felt like you needed to post negative comments about someone the original poster obviously likes. We get it you don't like John Mayer. Who cares what you all think. Lets see Mayer has played on stage with Clapton and Jeff Beck among others. Who's opinion is more relevant Clapton or Jeff Beck or some hacks on the fender forum website?

Nowadays someone is always a hater when they don't agree with YOU or a group thats shares a like OPINION. Yet, by that logic your disagreement with someone else's opinion also makes you a hater. Hi Hater! You seem distraught that anyone would have the nerve to talk bad about Johnny boy. Sure if we were all practicing we might be as "good" as him, but then again if you were better looking he might actually sleep with YOU. No worries though, always fun to see you all get riled up and upset when someone doesn't bow at the altar of John Mayer.

If you have to voice your negative opinions about Mayer start you own thread but don't squash someones joy. What makes you such an expert on music, musicianship, guitar playing, and song writing? What have you ever done? Yeah that's right nothing. And how do you know what I look like? Mayer would definately sleep with me.

Thats the thing about opinions, positive negative or otherwise everyone has one and has a right to voice it and if you don't agree with it you can either ignore it or sound off about how hurt you are. Never said I was an expert on music or any of that so those comments are irrelevant and just another attempt by a hurt Mayer fan to lash out at someone else for not worshipping the guy. We are all used to that by now from his fans. At least you don't suffer from low self esteem though. "Mayer would definitely sleep with me"- hahaha quote of the day. I don't owe anyone anything for simply having a different opinion than theirs and stating it without giving a sugar coated, flowery smelling response of joy in agreement with them. Just as I don't owe you anything, hence why I ignored your little question. But hey, keep the hope alive, you are a true believer in Mayer! LOL @ we owe something to the original poster. I mentioned the name Joe Bonamassa in this topic, that alone is payment enough. Now maybe he and others will go do some research and see a player, performer and musician who is better than Mayer and up their standards. You won't get another reply from me though, have a nice day. I don't know, he has a way of describing simple situations and thoughts with lyrics that are "outside the box" but you can understand exactly what's going on and what's he's trying to say. His lyrics are more about imagery, he's very good at telling a story in his songs.

Actually I realized something else while watching the episode of "Storytellers" he was on... he played rhythm for most of the show and there was an older gentleman who played the leads. I have no idea who it was but he did a fantastic job while John just played the chords.

While on the topics of backup guitarists, Ben Harper was on Austin City Limits and his back up band Rentless 7 rocked! Looked like a couple of young kids but they did fine job with Ben.

At the very least we all owe each other respect and civility in the world. Again the original poster was merely showing his joy in having seen a great performance of an artist he likes. But instead of posting something like "Great glad you had a good time"...you had to be rude by posting a link to some other unrelated artist and then in subsequent posts you had to bag on John Mayer. Man show a little respect to the original poster and at least have the common decency to not post in his thread and start your own thread if you want to bag on John Mayer. Then you have some nerve to suggest to that you are doing the original poster a favor by giving him a link to Joe Bonamassa. Like you are doing him a favor...right... Please.
