Hi gang,
Is there really a difference in "Acoustic" or "Bass" or just plain "Instrument"
cables?

Bill

Theres a lot of marketing gumf written about cables that has no real world application.

Heres a good paper on instrument cable.

You really dont need to spend much on instrument cable. Just make sure its not monster thick and has decent insulating material around it. Dont fall for the marketing hype.

Okay, Thanks Niki, I kind of thought that but just wasn't sure. You just saved me a few bucks!

I like switchcraft jacks on my cables, great quality. I believe shielding and inner construction of conductors, do make a slight difference, noticable to everyones ears, thats something I'm not sure of. I think I can hear a slight difference, but that could be just in my head. I guess everyone should compare cables, a number of times to see if they can notice a difference. :)

Belden cable and switchcraft ends have always worked fine for me.

Thanks for the replies, I bought a couple of DiMarzio's. MF has them on sale. They claim to have Switchcraft connectors and comes with a lifetime warrantee.
If you all get a chance check out the paper that Niki sent on cables.

Thanks again

I use the dimarzio cables, the planet waves ones. They are needlessly expensive, but they do have a big plus on most other cables. They are solderless connections. All you do ii undo a screw on the plug, yank the plug off the cable. Trim the cable down (past the break). Push the cable back into the plug, do the screw up and away you go.
You can do it on a dark stage with nothing more than a screwdriver and wirecutters in well under 2 minutes.

The plugs are staying with me when the cable has broken down, to recoup some of the costs. I've only had to trim 2" in 4 years though.

You're not kidding.
That's a tad steep, alright.
