One of the greatest voices in music history passed away Wednesday. The great Johnny Maestro of The Crest and Brooklyn Bridge fame passed from cancer at age 70. My brother just called to tell me this as I was a huge fan and had seen him close to 10 times. He was one of the greatest vocalist to ever live IMHO and a hell of a nice guy. For those who ever caught him performing on PBS in recent years it was almost scary how great his voice still sounded after 50+ years of recording. R.I.P Johnny you will be missed.

Johnny Maestro certainly had a great voice as was evidenced in "The Worst That Could Happen".I always wondered how he got that huge scar at the corner of his mouth,it was never mentioned.

Yes he was one of the greatest! As mentioned, I did hear him recently on PBS and he still "had it". Besides "Worst That Could Happen", I really liked "Sixteen Candles".

Thanks for posting, I had not heard of his passing.

What a voice! Rest easy Johnny! Cancer is a horrible disease.

Not just the Brooklyn Bridge but most might not know that he was the original lead singer for the Crests which was the first interracial Doo Wop group of the 50's with songs like 16 Candles, The Angels Listened In, Step By Step and many others.
