Hey gang! Well, I just formed a new band. We are going to play blues, hard-driving, down on your luck, cheap whiskey blues....real vintage-like with anger and attitude. We are also planning on sprinkling in some soul and maybe a little funk ( just to keep the ladies interested. )

Actually, Jay, I see a couple of good names in your post: Cheap Whiskey Blues...Anger & Attitude...or even The Hey Gang.

Edited to fix a really stupid spelling error. Oy.

"Cheap Whiskey Blues" would also make a great album/song title!

Thanks, Khashoggi. :) Now that I think about it, that name may be a better fit for a punk or ska band. But whatever. 8)

All good ideas, though some are taken (Cheap Whiskey).

Let me ask you this...

Im finding very many great names are taken, but many of those are sort of regionally isolated. For example, I might really like a band name and find that there is no record of any local band (upper midwest USA) with a similar name, but there is a band with that name in Manhatten or LA that doesnt tour.

Would you consider the using the name of a band that nobody in your area would have ever heard of?

Russians idea of Anger & Attitude caused me to consider "The Attitudes", which I think is a pretty cool name. But there is a punk band in the Netherlands called The Attitudes. They have a MySpace page, but are unlikely, IMO, to ever be recognizable in the US, much less Minneapolis.

Would you use that name??? Or would that be a bad thing to do?

I don't think it would be a major faux pas to do so. There are probably more bands out there called The Attitudes than just the one you found. If you're worried about it, you could add some local flair to set yourselves apart and ground yourself with your audience--like the Riverfront Atttitudes, the Stone Arch Attitudes, or even the Lutefisk Attitudes.

This reminds me of the scene in This is Spinal Tap when they explain why they changed their name from The Originals to The New Originals. 8)

Another good name for a Minneapolis-based band would be The Stone Arch Villains. 8)

Im not originally from the Twin Cities and dont really know all the local lore. So, forgive me, but I dont see the connection.

Why would that be a good name for a Mpls based band?

There's a very famous bridge there called the Stone Arch Bridge.
