Anybody been to this show? Im trying to decide if its worth asking for a day off. I've never been to a guitar show, and honestly I have no idea what to expect

Is it a good one?

Thanks
-John

Chicago Guitar Show

Date: 5/15/2010 - 5/16/2010

at the DuPage Expo, 4050 East Main St., St. Charles, IL. Produced by Texis Guitar Shows, L.L.C. For more info, contact (817) 312-7659, (817) 473-6087, fax (817) 473-1089, texasguitarshows.com. Co-sponsored by Vintage Guitar.

St. Charles is 40 miles west of Chi off of I90 or the Kennedy Expressway. I haven't been to one of these, not sure if public trans goes out that far maybe the Metra train but getting back would be tricky for me. There is time to make plans though, let us know, JohnZ6, if you are going :D

I went to this show last year in the summer. There were a decent amount of vendors there and they stayed around almost through to the end. Some really good vintage shops represented there, such as Cream City Music and Dave's Guitar Shop among many others. I would say its slanted toward vintage and there were a lot of acoustic. You certainly could find new stock electrics too. For the small fee, I'll be going again.

But be warned, if you are like me, with that many cool guitars for sale, you could be in for a lighter wallet before you leave. I bought a beautiful Martin GSK that I HAD TO HAVE...

If Vintage Guitar is a cosponsor you can be sure that there's some first rate stuff there, they've published articles and pix of shows they sponsored in the past and some real beautiful rare gear shows up.

You would have to go south down route 25 or 31 quite aways thru Elgin and South Elgin. North Avenue runs thru St. Charles, train stops there.

'Been to it a number of times. Good times.

Definitely a worthwhile few hours, if you are in the metro Chicago 'hood. Pretty much 30-some miles straight due west of the John Hancock Building on highway 64, North Avenue.

Besides new and used instruments, there are alwys a gob of parts, new and used.

Well I went to my first guitar show in the summer up in Philly, and will tell you it was a blast. Just dont have any really high hopes of finding some great bargain as almost everything is set to market . But you will see some of the greatest guitars and have a hell of a time. And maybe get lucky.
