Due to the chronic pain I suffer from I have to take morphine daily and I'm prescribed metaclopramide to combat nausea and that works quite well.

Thanks to everyone for the get well wishes. I do appreciate them. As of today, the pain is finally gone and now I can concentrate on playing some guitar before I go back to band practice tomorrow.

Thanks for the post-op report. Glad to hear you are comfortable.

I don't envy you. I have to have my wisdom teeth removed the same way. All four of them. :(

Good luck Joe - I had mine out this past summer - 34 years old!!! lol - the oral surgeon said, "You should have had this done years ago, cause this is gonna be a $@!&*!!" - the top ones came right out - the bottom ones were bad, the roots were wrapped around the nerve! My girlfriend went with me and the surgeon talked to her about everything, she is a nurse, he said mine was one of the worst cases he had seen - not trying to scare ya, cause now that its over, everything is good - but the first few days following surgery sucked bad!! All I could eat for a week was Wendy's Frosty's!! I cant even look at those damn things now without wanting to puke!! lol!!! Im with the other folks in this post, I didnt take the pain pills (hydrocodone) unless I really needed it due to the sick feeling it created - I took motrin and it helped a bit more

Third molar position always begs the question of 'risk-benefit ratio' or 'is the juice worth the squeeze? What was the imperative driving the removal of these teeth? Permanent nerve damage is an ever present risk associated with some approaches to accessing deeply impacted lower third molars and is often a reason for deferring the procedure.

ZZDOC - the surgeon spoke with me about all the risks during a consult - I cant remember the exact %'s he gave me concerning the risk of permanent damage - Over the past few years, they just kept getting infected and such, they were very impacted - So, i had to wait for my dental insurance to kick in before going through with it, and I kept having to change my appointment due to Court Schedules and such with work - im so glad its over - no more pain! No nerve damage at all! It had some numbness for a month or so after the surgery though!

From your description of the recurrences, it sounds like you had partially erupted molars causing a condition known as pericoronitis. Deeply impacted teeth wouldn't precipitate recurrent acute episodes, although tooth position of partially impacted teeth can still be problematic in surgical management.

The worst part about my root canal were the multiple trips to the dentist. The pain was nothing! Ole girl would die in the real world.

Having posted your dentist's weblink I hope you did so because you were satisified with your care. The nature of, and response to endodontic procedures [aka 'root canal'] varies with the patient, presentation, and degree of difficulty with the case the details of which are really beyond the scope and space for this discussion. In my own personal experience, going into the procedure in literally blinding pain, it was done in two visits, by an endodontist colleague of mine, and was pain free from start to finish. Though I know many general dentists who do endodontics well, my preference for my patients was to always refer to a specialist. Their offices are designed to do one thing, and one thing only, quickly and efficiently. They will more than likely have equipment, such as a surgical microscope to aid in difficult situations. Something not likely to be found in the office of a general dentist.
