Doesn't really matter, he's still a tool. GP interviewed "The Great Kat" and I found her hilarious. The interviewer said she yells a lot. LOL

i saw yankwe several times when i was a younger man. even today i still think he's a very good guitar player. i guess i'm just amazed at how fast some guys can play even though i'm more of a warren haynes guy. the last time i saw yankwe he was having equipment problems. his tantrum was embarrassing and he left his bandmates on stage wondering what the hell to do. kind of axl roseish. that night i forgot about yankwe until he showed up on a g3 video.
yankwe is not even a mole on jimi's $@!.

It doesn't sound in the posted clip like he was talking about Hendrix's music, it sounds like he was talking about the clip he saw of Hendrix smashing the guitar, "There was no music, just noise."

Sounds like he's talking about the news clip he saw.

Here we go again misinterpreting another artist for something he might have said drunk or on drugs and he didn't even insult anyone.

Lets continue to follow Brad's advice and stay off bashing artists on a web site that is supposed to be about guitars. Also don't forget this particular artist generates a lot of revenue for Fender through guiter shows and appearances.

i am a big fan of Hendrix
but Malmsteen do have his point
Hendrix excel in showmanship & as a guitarist/singer/songwriter
Malmsteen's solo is more complex
but the number 1 guitar player must be Roy Buchanan

What's complex? He just zips around in minor pentatonic.

And I agree with ABS, at this point his comments are driven more by his insecurity than his arrogance.

Yngwie is talking about the video of Hendrix he saw on the news destroying his guitar, he's not giving his opinion of him as a player. What he means is that Hendrix's attitude inspired him, not his music. This thread is a good example of why I lack faith in humanity.

Watch Jimi playing Machine Gun with Band of Gypsys and your faith will be restored.

I never liked Malmsteen, and he words mean nothing to me. He was a big part of the problem with the music scene in the 80's....no substance to his stuff, you only listen for the shredding, which always sounded very out of place in his music. He is a joke as far as I am concerned, regardless of his playing ability

I call it: "Fingerboard Diarrhea".

This middle aged porker is trying to maintain an 80's emaciated space rat look while at the same time, badmouthing all his contemporaries in order to preserve what's left of his career. Common sense dictates that he has some mighty deep seated psychological issues.

A thought: Malmsteen and DiMarzio were presumed to be best buddies for how many years and the next thing we know, Malmsteen dumps DiMarzio and is now Seymour Duncan's best buddy as Malmsteen abandons one brand of signature pickup for another. I guess Malmsteen's actions will cost Fender a lot of money, what with Fender having to get out of a DiMarzio contract with the old signature pickups and into a Duncan one, having to update Malmsteen's current and foreseeable future signature model Strats.

Ah, nothing like a man with character.

Not to defend Malmsteen, but many artist change their sponsors.

I did see him in concert in the 80's with AC/DC. The whole concert was terrible until the guitar solo, where he was trowing his guitar 20 feet in the air. Once te solo was over, they promptly went back to sucking
