I was wondering when the Nuge would get mentioned again, after I mentioned him.

At school the next day I could barely hear.

zontar, i'm being serious here. we were looking around at other folks wondering if our ears had exploded. i wasn't hearing music. it was just a huge wall of noise. scared me somewhat but after a few tunes i guess my ears got numb. never been close to anything that loud since and i do construction and farm work. still love uncle teddy.

Actually I think the loudest wasn't Nugent like I posted before--but Disaster Area.

saw the big 3 that were trying for the Guinness book in '74 Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and yes they were loud, flash to '88 at Allstate Arena AC/DC the cannons knocked everyone off of their chairs, flash to '90 Popular Creek The Cult and Metallica were so loud we were 9 or 10 rows back front and center and went to the back stage area after 2 songs from The Cult, just too loud, they win the loud contest.

found the ticket stub for The Cult/Metallica, July 7, 1989.

I was talking to a guy the other night about concerts and how loud they are / were. He brought his 14 year old to an ACDC concert last summer bringing along some earplugs, his son could not believe how loud it was!!! Any thoughts on what you consider to be the loudest concert(s) that you have attended?

My choices are two separate concerts:

1. Frank Marino and Mohagany Rush (a concert with Humble Pie and Angel)
2. UFO

i went to see motorhead at a gig indoors and they asked if they were loud eough after one song (they were pretty loud already), the majority of the audience said no, I couldnt hear anything really afterwards, not even my mrs stood next to me. The next day my hearing started to come back. I wasn't next to the speakers either, was some way away from them :S

Of course small club venues will be louder simply because of the small space... So I will give you my loudest small venue and loudest large venue...

small : Suicidal Tendencies at the 930 club in Washington DC 1985. Very small club with multiple Marshall Stacks... Ouch...
large : ACDC Capital Center For those about to rock tour (84 I think?), Yes that was the first tour with the cannons... And boy did the crowd like those booms...

Nugent, AC/DC, Pearl Jam, all were booming but the loudest by far was a band from my home town, originally Loudermilk and became Gosling, toured with Velvet Revolver among others. It was in a local arena, had to leave to save my ears, and my kids.

I saw Suicidal on the Lights Camera Revolution tour with MOD as support. That was a fantastic gig.

On venue size it doesnt really come into it as decibels are a measure of sound pressure. You will acheive more db's with less watts in a small club than you will a big venue. Its all on db's though, not watts.
