I was talking to a guy the other night about concerts and how loud they are / were. He brought his 14 year old to an ACDC concert last summer bringing along some earplugs, his son could not believe how loud it was!!! Any thoughts on what you consider to be the loudest concert(s) that you have attended?

My choices are two separate concerts:

1. Frank Marino and Mohagany Rush (a concert with Humble Pie and Angel)
2. UFO

I saw George Thorogood in a small venue. My ears rang for 3 days! Must have had some permanent damage there.

Big Sugar used to say they had the loudest tour in Canada, and at one show Gov't Mule opened for them. Warren Haynes was WAAYY louder than Gordie Johnson. He played with Big Sugar on one of the encore songs (Let It Ride by BTO) and when he came in, he was louder than the whole band!

It was AC/DC for me - on their Back in Black tour around '81. They played in a hall here that only held 4000 - 5000 people and I was down near the stage. My ears rang for days after it.

Led Zeppelin - Boston Tea Party 1969 - the place only handled a couple of hundred people I think...The stage was maybe a foot off the floor and you could put your feet up and lay back while you listened. One of the first shows in the USA.

Jimi Hendrix - Boston Garden 1970 - talk about a Wall of Sound...

The Who - Boston Music Hall 1971? - They played 4-5 nights and I went to every one of the shows. My ears were ringing for days...I think I lost my hearing when Pete Townsend did... :)

The loudest I've heard was The James Gang at The Warehouse back in the late 60's or early 70's. It was a rather small crowded warehouse(renovated) in New Orleans.

Ted Nugent back in the day. i have been to a ton of loud concerts, including close proximity to the ACDC cannon, but nothing has come even close to how loud Ted was.

For me it was Ozzy a few years back. Great show and super loud. I thought that Metallica would blast me out of my seat but their sound was great. It was very loud obviously but it wasn't badly distorted like most loud rock shows are. Loud is cool but a mass of muffled mess is annoying no matter how much you love the band.

Two of mine immediately came to mind for me.

Loudest = Marilyn Manson Antichrist Superstar tour at the Hard Rock. The Bass Drum was thumping so hard, it would physically take some of the breath out of you.

2nd = Korn Issues tour. Muddier sound, but way up there in volume. Not quite as physically percussive.
