I am well out of harms way. I live in a town called Hafnarfjörður just southwest of Reykjavík on the southwest corner, can't even see that thing from here.

Business as usual in the tectonics department along the ring of fire. Iceland sits on the mid-oceanic ridge where magma rises to the ocean floor, creates new land and causes the ocean floor to migrate east and west from there. If you want to see creation at its best, Iceland and Hawaii are places to be.

Everybody is okay last time I checked. Just as the older eruption stops another one started under Eyjafjallajökull and is meting alot of ice that is causing some flooding. The Highway number 1 (The golden ring) was gut in couple of places to save some bridges (it is cheaper to build roads than bridge). Any way here are some pics from Morgunblaðið (a morning paper named The Morning Paper :D ) : http://www.mbl.is/mm/frettir/myndasyrpa.html?cat_id=4;album=1049;img=28489&ref=fprenningur

I was reading that this morning too. A lot of airports around the U.K closed from debris in the airspace. And the cloud is moving into other European Airspace.

Just have to share this picture. That farm got badly damaged in flooding from the clacier yesterday, but tonight the wind direction is supposed to change and the ashfall will go over this farm. Poor unlucky farmer.

Update:

Everyone in Iceland has to wear dust mask not just people in the evacuation area. They say that the wind will be to unpredictable in the next few days. Lucky for me I can get a dust mask here at work.

Volcanic mud!!..Ditto! FYI ya'll...volcanic 'ash' is not the kind of ash which results from combustion of carbon fuels like wood and paper. It is composed of fine particles of magma having a silica base. Drawn into a jet engine, they melt and fuse into the equivalent of glass. When combined with water it can form a mud which hardens like concrete. Flows of that stuff are known as lahars. The Romans mined material out of an ignimbrite(pumice) deposit which was formed thousands of years ago and used it in their pioneering development of concrete as a building material.
