I was wondering the same thing last night when I saw the news. My thought and prayers for those folks go out…….what the heck is going on in the word.. Earth quakes everywhere Tsunamis, volcanoes, makes you wonder about the whole 2012 thing.

Cheers
Bill

after hearing about Obama's health bill passing the house, the 2012 doomsday prediction may well be a welcomed relief! :?

I sent a message to Jon on FB (as did CC). looked like he was online about an hour before I sent the message. so it appears that he is OK.

That’s good to hear. I have not actually talked to Jon for some time and never see him on FB much anymore so I was a bit worried. I know there are a few of our brothers here on the Forum from Iceland I believe…..I sure hope all is well

I am fine and well out of harms way.

The eruption is very small and just outside and clacier called Eyjafjallajökull. They evacuated some 500-600 people because they thought that the eruption was under the clacier which could have caused some flooding on the south lowlands in Iceland. The eruption might still go under the clacier but it has been reducing all day. What worries geologist now is that whenever Eyjafjallajökull erupts then Katla in Mýrdalsjökull (which is a larger clacier) erupts to and that volcano is 25+ years overdue on eruption and is going to cause a lot more trouble. But the current eruption has proven that the evacuation plan works and the authorities are lot more prepared if that happens.

Here are some pics from the new lava. http://www.visir.is/apps/pbcs.dll/gallery?Site=XZ&Date=20100322&Category=FRETTIR01&ArtNo=902021452&Ref=PH&Params=Itemnr=1&NoBorder=1&PictureCount=

The volcanic crack is estimated about 500-1000 meters long and the lava spewed about 100 meters in the air when it was the most powerful.

Thanks for your concern everybody. :)

That’s great to hear Brother…
You know how news broadcasts are; only give you half a story and always make things seem worst than they are. I guess that’s how they sell papers I don’t know

NonniG,
Glad that you are out of harm's way. From the photos you linked to it looks like that was nasty.

NonniG, thanks for the update and pic's, those aerial shots are way cool, the whole area there looks like no-mans land, can't imagine anyone ever going there, so this is how new mountain peaks are formed:

Icelands newest mountainpeak.
Thanks again Bro.

That area that erupted is actually a popular treking (walking) track just few meters away from the crack.

Hey guys here are some new photos from the volcano including the currently world largest lavafall in pics 7 and 8, over 200 meter fall, and some more:
http://www.visir.is/apps/pbcs.dll/gallery?Site=XZ&Date=20100324&Category=FRETTIR01&ArtNo=88195466&Ref=PH&Params=Itemnr=1&NoBorder=1&PictureCount=

@ Solid: Historically any time the Eyjafjallajökull (Islandmountainglacier :? ) erupts then Katla in next clacier (Mýrdalsjökull (Swampvalleyglacier)) over in east erupts too Katla is not showing any signs of eruption (yet) but is some 20 to 30 years overdue on eruption. And I don't care what Fox News says it is not going to destroy the whole world, mostly because it is under a glacier.

I like to mention a show from History Channel I saw couple of days ago. It is in a series named "How the earth was made" and the episode I saw was about Iceland, I think it is episode number 11. It was quiete intresting even though I knew most of it already there were somthings I didn't know.

NonniG those photographer's are out of their minds going that close, if that volcano burps' they are gonna be Barbecue and man if Katla erupts it's under a glacier, you are far away from that, yes?
