Just bought Rory Gallagher Live in Europe - arriving this week via mail. I am hoping this was a good choice....any opinions on this or other Rory CD's?

Fantastic album! Some of Rory's finest slow blues playing on that one, great harmonica playing too, not to mention the mandolin!

Now you need Irish Tour '73, Calling Card, Blueprint, Against The Grain, Tatoo and all the other great Rory albums (yes, they're all great! )

I am on a massive Rory kick ever since I "discovered" him a few weeks ago. My favorites (songs):

1) Fuel to the Fire
2) Shadow Play
3) A Million Miles Away
4) Do You Read Me
5) Don't Know Where I'm Going

8)

Live in Europe is the perfect starting point for any Rory listener. Messin' with the Kid and Bullfrog Blues alone are well worth the price of the album. It was this album that first made me a lifelong Rory fan 10 years ago. From there, you must get Irish Tour! Also check out some of his dvds; especially the Irish Tour film (listen to the audio commentary by bro Donal and longtime bassist Gerry McAvoy for interesting insights about Rory) and Live at Rockpalast. Goooooooood Stuff!!

May i also recommend "Rory Gallagher: The Rockplast Collection" on dvd.

Its a series of concerts performed by rory at the rockplast festival from the early 70s through to the mid/late 80's.

The earlier stuff is superb, lets you see how much he put into his performances and what a show man he was. simply amazing.

I am quite fond of both "Stagestruck" and the "BBC Sessions".

I saw the man live at the Glasgow Apollo, many moons ago. One of the highlights of my life to date, and unbelievable experience. I must get a few CD's soon, any excuse for a trip into town.
