Hi 63 Supro,I'm well aware that all these players have played and could have played something else. The point I was trying to make was that these players were/are largely associated with Strats and that association would have not been possible without the monumental contribution Leo made to the guitar playing world.

Well understood guitslinger and no offense meant. In that case you forgot my favorite Strat player of all time. The late Rory Gallagher. even though he was known to toss on a Supro from time to time. :D

Without Leo we wouldn't have had Buddy,Jimi,Stevie,Eric,Jeff and countless others to look up to and influence us, the guitar world owes this great man a huge debt of gratitude.

Why not??? They would have played something different. They didn't always play Fenders. Jimi, SRV, Clapton and Jeff Beck played different guitars. Beck, Clapton and Hendrix all played Gibson at one point and I know SRV played Dano's from time to time and I'm sure Buddy played more than Strats. I was influenced by the music, not the Fender guitar.
Fender is a very different company today.

RIP Leo and thanks for your original designs, being a pioneer and form follows function attitude.

Still, 3257 posts on a Fender Forum ?
Congrats

Wow thanks. It's been a pleasure exchanging ideas and opinions with you and everyone else on this board. Still nothing compared to Miami Mike. :D

I don't know how I could have overlooked Rory especially after seeing him in concert from about the 3rd row. They Don't Make 'em Like You Anymore is one of my all time favourite songs and Tattoo is a definite desert island disk.

In 2007 when I decided to try guitar again after a loooong break, I looked out for the ideal guitar for like four months and in the end all I really wanted was a Strat. I said to myself that if I was going to have only one electric guitar, it was going to be a Stratocaster. Of course I didn't know about GAS then. Thank you so much Mr Fender. :)

It is almost unthinkable Alain to think of a world without Strats and Teles. R.I.P Leo and thanks for the greatest guitars ever and also for bringing us altogether here on the forum.

Hey, gutslinger
Buddy put Fender on the map! You must be a lil' baby, and your posts stink. Also, you may certainly take this personally!

8hank31 just what exactly is your problem?I never once said anything against Buddy either Guy or Holly and I have always loved the music of both.I don't know where you come off saying I must be "a lil baby" I'm 56 years old and have been playing 45 years. You may not like my posts that's your perogative but you're way off base launching into a personal attack as I have never posted anything to consciously offend anyone.I wasn't going to respond to your unprovoked tirade as it was once said by a man more learned than you or I""If a jackass brays one is not obliged to reply." but I couldn't let this outrageous insulting outburst go unanswered. It would behove you to read a few passages of a book by Norman Vincent Peale "How to Win Friends and Influence People" as with that poisonous negative attitude you are unlikely to cultivate many friendships.Get well soon.

It's true that many of my favourite guitarists play fenders, but I chose mine because it was personal to me. I love the sound, the feel, the look, the vibe (Castle fans, anyone?) - Leo Fender deserves all of the praise he gets.

Happy birthday to your Mum, guitargirl93! :)

What I love most about what Leo Fender did for guitars is that every part of his design is functional. Everything is made to not only play well but sound great and be comfortable for the player. It's not just a pretty slab of wood with strings but a true design icon. The lack of new designs is a tribute to Leo Fender and his work when you consider that 90% of all other guitars are either some form of Strat or Les Paul copy.

They are the most copied guitars for sure.

And many solidbodies--whatever their shape have two humbuckers & a variation of the Les Paul bridge & tailpiece.

My Iceman is a variation of that.

It doesn't look like a Les Paul, but is a variation on mahogany Les Pauls--or actually it's closer to an SG, with some weight, but the back is like a Strat.

How right you are Hoeycow, the fact that the design and layout of the Strat has remained unchanged for 56 yrs goes to show that he acheived perfection when he first released it.Even the Les Paul received changes and upgrades since it's initial appearance especially with the bridge and tailpiece assembly. So the Strat and Tele were about the only guitars of that vintage that were perfect from the get go.
