I remember the Bogen P.A. units :

...used with a pair of horns that looked something like this :

..and monitors were unheard of!

Anyone ever have one of these old Silvertone amps?

Image

That was the first amp I ever had. :D
That and a Teisco guitar.
You'd let those old tubes warm up and that thing would crank.
Another amp I wish I'd kept.

There's someone selling one of the Kustom's near me for $350 in black. I think there's another one that's just the head, in blue, but not sure of the price.

Hi Dave,I wouldn't even have to think about getting that Kustom.Although Kustom amps were solid state they had a convincingly tube-like tone and were practically indestructible.Guys I knew who had Kustom amps in the day stuck with them and never had trouble with them. One guy I know still has the Kustom that he bought new in the late 60s and it has never been in the shop to this day although after years of gigging the speakers finally packed it in.I'd buy the amp in a heartbeat.

Silvertone made some kickin' amps!

Your amp is pictured in this link:

And speaking of Kustom amps, anyone own and play either of the newer all tube Kuston '72 or '36 Coupes? Same look as the old w/ rolled and tucked cover and blue/red/grey/black highlight choice.

I always thought they appeared to have appealing features, but never heard one nor knew anyone who has one.

Are they worth the money?

StratoBoster, that's a great link! 8)

I recall having a Silvertone Twin Twelve and the head would fit in the back of the cabinet part for storage.

The 1st band I was in at 15 used a Silvertone 100W head and a single Traynor column laid flat on the stage in front of us for a PA,the really were great amps and sounded pretty funky when set on bust.

Yep, brings back maybe way too many memories. The bass player in the first band I was ever asked to sit in with had a Kustom (white I recall) and the keyboard player had a B3 and a Leslie. The other guitarist had a twin reverb and an LP (gold top from memory).

(I had a Mustang and an Ampeg Jet ... it proved to be my one and only session sitting in with them.)

But I saw a lot of them in general back then. A lot of the name bands used them until the Marshall stacks starting to show up.

Ah Riley, they were the glory days for some of us, and doing things like this thread brings us back to them pretty well when we all share like this, i have very pleasantly been made aware of. Your glory days are just beginning i'd say, pay close attention, focus on the positive, cherish every moment. keep the memories you create alive, they are yours to have all your life.

Anybody remember this amp? Sound City far left... the bottom cabinet is original to the head holds 4 12"s. The top I added later and has 4 10"s. I had the the head retubed and some pots replaced in 2005 but it was my first amp... I kept the old parts and was quite surprised at how good it sounded after living in limbo for decades. Warning do not use this amp unless wearing ear protection and playing a large stadium environment.

This is a 74 Dallas Arbiter version and I am the 2nd and only other owner as far as I know. 8)

Since I was only 11 I wasn't going to dances in '69, but a lot of that gear was still around in the '70's when I did.

I still have a Kustom 100 in "cascade" with the matching 1x15 cab, which can be seen below:

Image

Plus a pair of old Kasino PA columns, a portion of one of which can be seen on the right side here:

And an old Woodson bass rig:
