I love guitar hero, it has nothing to do with real guitar but its still fun.Especially at parties.

My opinion exactly. I like playing it, and I nearly beat Rock Band on expert. I stopped when I realized how much time I was wasting when real guitar is even more fun. So I just play it for fun, and I don't spend too much time on it.

And as stated previously, it exposes kids to some really awesome music that they would never hear in the charts or on the radio. My bro started listening to Credence Clearwater revival because of it!!

Yeah! My friend's only know SRV, Cream, CCR, The Beatles etc. because of guitar hero/rock band.

I think that the music games could have a profound impact on real music in the not so distant future. I hope that kids my age will listen to those great rock bands that they would never have heard on the radio, get inspired by it and go on to make a change in the music industry by playing real rock music. Or maybe that's just me dreaming. Either way, it is a glimmer of hope.

Thanks Hoeycow, that's exactly the point I was trying to get across, but I was apparently misunderstood by others on here.

I've played it and it is a good game to inspire people to play guitar.Thats what it's for.I even saw a video that says that. Why do you think that they added drums and mic? It's to get people to go out there and buy a guitar and start playing.Even though it will kick them in the butt when they think it is going to be easy as guitar hero then they get one and go "oh crap" and get lessons. It's suppose to be like what the fray are doing and trying to get kids to play music.

The game itself is a money making sham, but if it gets people to listen to good music then it's not all bad.

It's a game, nothing more. It bugs me, though, how many times people have asked me if Guitar Hero actually teaches someone how to play guitar. Which I guess goes to show how little regular folks understand about the dedication it takes to play an instrument.
As far as people hearing new music through the game, don't even get me started. I could go on for hours. Bottom line - the songs are an accessory to a game. No one is checking the songs out for the sake of hearing music; the songs are a far second to the game. Nothing positive about that. Just my opinion.

There may be an upside to Guitar Hero in that it may improve hand-eye coordination, bring young people to appreciate classic rock and it may even inspire some to take up guitar.A young person who's drawn to take guitar because of Guitar Hero may be disappointed when he/she finds out that learning on the real thing is a lot harder than playing the game and get turned off guitar altogether.

when I was going to try the game I thought " this will be easy 'cause I've been playing guitar for many years", I couldn't get through even 1 phase of the game with ease, I didn't just suck at it I super sucked at it, there are people probably mostly youngsters who are great at it and if they are having fun that's what games are for, not sure about music influences, I'm pretty sure when Mom says dinners ready who ever is playing drops the controller and runs, maybe they remember the last song in the game maybe not, if the people playing the game get a try at a real guitar they will notice the difference and enjoy the challenge/reward or not, whether they play guitar hero shouldn't affect that with the exception of the Bros here that said that they started playing because guitar hero stimulated curiosity in a real guitar.
I'm not sure if I actually made any sense with this post, if not, I apologize for that.

Ha ha, same, I've played it once, and every song on there I knew on guitar, I stuffed up on cause your just used to doing the actual rythm and chords rather than those plastic buttons.

i find it amusing because im already so good with my fingering that the game is nothing to me i beat it on all difficulty levels in every game. but when someone beats me in the game and they start bragging i put a real guitar in their hands and tell'em to play it and if they cant then i can brag all i want :D :P lol

I have seen a similar thread in the past. In that thread I posted something like this:

I think Guitar Hero and other like games have both good and bad points to them.

Bad: I think if you are going to take all that time to learn songs, learn them on a real guitar, bass, or drums.

Good: It exposes older music to younger people who otherwise might not have never heard those songs before.

Personally I do not play them because I choose to learn music for real. I choose not to waste my time practicing on toys. And DJ Hero...lets get real, whta's next it will be Bagpipe Hero or Banjo Hero (lol)?
