I see enough poverty and starving/ homeless people in my own community that I’ll be darned if I send any money overseas, especially because some Rock Star wanna- be says I should. What the H*ll is wrong with celebrities these days. Nobody wants to hear there opinion on the state of affairs in the world, we get more than enough of that in the evening news…. Shut the H*ll up and sing your crappy little song Bono, feel proud you duped some moron into paying hard earned money for that and let it be.

Fans at more adult performances like Brian Setzer burn me too. Not all of them ... just the idiots who need to be on their feet and dancing around for just about every song. You can't see through them and because they're moving around so much, can't angle yourself to see past them. So you've just paid $200 (self + GF) to see the backs of three middle aged out of control women for two hours.

I've gone to several other not-for-kids but lively concerts as well and same deal -- some jack&sses just refuse to sit down. They're "excited" as one put it in reaming out someone else for asking them nicely if they could please sit.

Example: two women and three guys $@!&# so excited that they have to dance to each number ... even the slow ones ... at a James Taylor concert????? If they're that excitable, maybe they need to see their doctor, but I'm sick and tired of them sitting in front of me and the ushers don't do a thing. I'm not the only one with this complaint either.

The fact is that if you need to be on your feet the whole time, most venues set aside an area on the floor for exactly that purpose. Call it a pit or whaterver you want. That's what it's there for. So if you need to be up dancing around except maybe for the band's "signature" number (where it's expected that many will be up), then please, please buy tickets in the pit. The venue will NOT give me my money back just because all I could see for two hours was your butt waving in my face.

It's a concert. A party atmosphere where many people want to dance and let loose. Your expectation is like someone going to a party and sitting on the couch and listening to music and when you can't hear the lyrics in the music you ask people to sit down and be quiet. And as far as your suggestion that these people should buy tickets in the pit...that may be so but usually the pit sells out quickly and tickets in the pit are more expenxsive. Since you are suggesting where others should buy their tickets..has it occured to you to buy tickets in the front row of a section? That way no one will be directly in front of you.

The bottom line is loosen up it's a concert.

OZZY RULES!!!

I usually go with the flow at a concert. If they stand, I stand, if they sit, I sit. I know not everyone can conform to this but you gotta do what you gotta do. If I have general admission tickets on the floor, the tallest person in the place always manages to stand right in front of me and my girlfriend! On the sitting side, I saw the Black Crowes and everyone was sitting. Chris Robinson made a comment "you guys look pretty comfortable. I feel like I should bring you a sandwich."

Hi wtcumm00 while I can fully appreciate the fact that you see enough poverty and suffering in your own country ,that doesn't take away from the fact that people in other countries need taking care of too. While I can see the rationelle of take care of your own first there are people in other countries who literally eat mud for the mineral content and the sensation of fullness to stay alive. There are not many in the have countries that have to resort to such drastic measures.I too think that Bono goes overboard with his "feed the world message" but I fully support the helping of those in 3rd world countries. Our own countries are very lax in addressing poverty in our own countries and this is where the problem lies, if they spent 10% of the money they waste on "corporate welfare"to address the poverty on our own doorsteps we wouldn't have the homeless/hunger problems we have now.I give freely to local food/homeless shelter organizations and donate good used clothing(and sometimes new)to local shelters but I also have a foster child in Ethiopia and because of this I'm helping his family become self sufficient so that won't have to rely on international relief for help and can eventually feed and clothe themselves.I believe that I am my brother's keeper whether he be living under an overpass in the nearest city or living in a hovel in Sierre Leonne.I feel it is the duty of all those who have a comfortable lifestyle to help stamp out hunger and poverty wherever it is.

Guitslinger I see your point and actually agree with you for the most part. It’s just the whole celebrity campaign to promote awareness that actually urkes in some strange way I can’t really explain. Like the general population is to ignorant to see or really understand what is going on; But hey if Oprah, Angelina Jolie, or Bono say it, then it really must be a problem and may actually get taken care of. I don’t even know why it is but these celebrities drive me nuts. I’m sure they really do mean well and care for whatever their cause is but the perception comes across and seeming like their just checking off a box on their checklist to furthering their carriers.
Anyway we are way of subject from this thread and for that I apologize.
As far as an artist that takes himself too seriously I have to say Malmsteen… yeah he has skills but that only goes so far..

Bill

Wow Screamin Armadillo, it would have been easier for you to state the one band you like and then just say you hate everything else.

I don't really hate anything, I just prefer to listen to some music more than other.

You're right...I can sometimes be an opinionated jacka$$!

Just a "wee bit of venting" to clear off the ol' "dislike desk"!

I'll listen to anything and give almost everything two chances, and I'll even revisit something I might have dismissed before, but the squiggly line of what I like and dislike is pretty bold.

Screamin Armadillo, thanks for taking my statement correctly.

I used to have similar views but as I've gotten older and had some friends convince me to give different music a chance, I'm learning to appreciate a wider variety of music. I'm learning a lot of different music as my band plays a lot of weddings. As I learn to play these songs I feel like I am becoming a better guitarist and though I would not normally listen to some of this music, it sure is fun to learn and play.

But just about every artist takes themselves too seriously. It would be difficult not to when you get payed as much as they do to play music. The people around them trying to get there piece. It creates an environment that most artists lose themselves in. Bono is one that has really gone way past his circle of influence. There is a lot of power in a microphone connected to a big PA system. And it would be great if they would just not worry about changing the world by preaching to the audience but just sing their songs. We go to concerts to be entertained. We go to our places of worship to try to learn to become better people.

I wish more entertainers understood that.
