Bill Haley.

Some pretty nice guitar work in that early Rock n Roll, yet no one seems to throw any "love" his way. What do you all think?

No.

Rock Around The Clock was a cover.

The original artists were Sonny Dae and The Knights.

I don't think Haley is that good.

Cliff Gallup played some really "out there" stuff with Gene Vincent's band.

Pretty much everything back then was a cover, wasn't it?

I was just thinking that perhaps he inspired some early young rockers to pick up a guitar. I believe he was doing his "thing" before most of the early R&R crew. Then again, I could be wrong.

Don't forget that it was Danny Cedrone who played the solo on Haley's Rock Around the Clock. Great early rock player who died tragically before experiencing real fame.

True. He had a sizable impact on a lot of early rockers, like Buddy Holly.

Lightnin' Hopkins doesn't get near the recognition he deserves.

Well I believe Buddy Holly is the first famous Fender R&R endorser. Cliff Gallup was a shear genius all you have to do is listen to Race with the Devil or Double Talkin Baby. Jeff Becks tribute Crazy Legs is a great album on which he nailed Gallups playing to a tee. Not to leave out Scotty Moore, James Burton who wrote the lick to Suzie Q when he was 14 and played killer guitar on all the early Ricky Nelson records as a teen, Eddie Cochran, Micky Baker who I sat and copied his licks from Love is Strange when I was about 11. Well a few turned out to be immortals and some will have people go WHO. But they are all great.
