I'm about to go get some new strings. Was thinking about trying the GHS David Gilmour series 10.5 gauge. I use 10s now but they're starting to feel to rubbery to me and last time i tried 11s they were a bit much. I give a lot of credit to SRV for bending his strings like butter with such a heavy gauge. Didn't he use 12s?

anyway ... what's your choice of string gauge

I use 9's or 10's.

Stevie at one time used 15's, then he switched to 13's.

I tried .12's. I could play them all right in Eb, but in standard they were brutal. And I play in standard 95% of the time, so I switched to .11's and I like them a lot.

D'Addario Chrome XL flatwound 11's on the Gretsch 5120, less finger noise and a mellower tone compliment a semi hollow body IMHO.

Was using D'Addario 10s. Just made a switch to GHS 11s. Music store was a hoot. Things haven't changed. There's still that long hair dirt rocker in there trying out an amp at a really LOUD volume with about 3 or 4 disciples following him around so he's obliged to do his obligatory Guitar Store Shred show.
