It's kinda cool how it makes your six string guitar sound kinda like a twelve stringer.

It sounds great on 'Hotel California' and 'Dust in the Wind'.

Anyone else try it?

Nope, never have. I guess I should splurge for the oddball set of individual strings and try it one day.

Could someone explain more on what Nashville tuning is?

It is very cool. I used to have an acoustic tuned like that.

Does this require a new set up?

Because you are using the octave strings from a 12 string set there is less tension on the neck. If you are doing this on a Strat a setup would probably be needed.

More info on Nashville tuning :

A lot of Paul Simon tracks have high-strung guitars on them. If I recall, there are a lot on 'Rhythm of the Saints'.

Paul often plays high-strung guitar live for rhythm parts, leaving regular strung guitar parts to the band.

Speaking of Paul Simon, his song 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover has a stellar chord progression don't you think???

Yes indeed!

Nashville tuning was used on 'Hotel California' and many other hit songs.

I found a set of strings made by D'Addario (which string company I'm not all that crazy about) specifically aimed at Nashville tuning. I have decide I will order a couple sets and try them on one of my acoustics for a while.

I played a guitar set up that way once a long time ago. I was a beginner so i can't really say anything about it, but I think it may be an excellent plan for my Teisco when I finish fixing it up. I was considering having it be a dedicated slide guitar, but I think Nashville tuning is the way to go.
