It would seem that Michael Jackson, the 'King of Pop', has landed a record deal worth a guaranteed $200MM for 10 projects, and could be worth $250MM.

Is it just me or is there anyone else that thinks that guy is dead?

This is why the music industry is on a respirator. Another roll of the dice bad decision by some CEO who is more than likely to young and does not have proper buisness skills. What they are doing is giving out the largest contract ever to someone who cant deliver and are banking on reissues and video games- I would call that a terrible move.

Before his death Jackson's last few albums had sold very poorly and not just by his standards but in general. Now of course after his death anyone could for see a huge sales spike in his back catalogue which I believe the article quoted to be 31 million world wide which is huge. But once the shock of his death dies down so will the sales which have already peaked. They say there is one album of material in the can but after that you are banking on what for 9 more years. Video games, special editions of past albums and the use of his image. In my book that dont come close to 250 million.

Right after Michael passed to the next realm, some waggish Chicago talk show host said it was his most brilliant and successful career move.

This is why I mostly listen to Indie music now... The big companies have blamed the downloaders and pirates for their ills... still not realizing that what they're producing now sucks!:x

This is why the "industry" is a relic, and completley irrelevant.

I think you're right, but there is a caveat.

It is a business, and businesses need to make money to survive and thrive. We all get that. So I can see it if the label comes out with "MJ's Greatest Hits" after a year or so. Fine. But in this case, they're talking about $200MM and the little pervert is DEAD! He's NOT going to be doing ten more projects. Yet some presumably astute business people are shelling out major cash. Why? Because the world seems to be full of pinheads that will fork over the money for anything that has that clown's name on it and they know it.

Every time I think something is finally idiot proof, along come a better grade of idiot.

Go figure.

It would be nice if the estate made good to all those that he stiffed over the years, like say, the employees of Neverland for starters.

I won't be holding my breath on that one.

Trust me this is going just the same way as Hendrix's posthumous releases did. Subpar stuff that he wouldnt have released whilst alive. Cant a famous bloke die with dignity these days?

I don't disagree with your sentiment Niki, but the word 'dignity' is hardly a word that I would associate with the name 'Michael Jackson', or any of the rest of the Jackson clan for that matter.
