I've just received an email update on the Korean Cort workers plight after the plant in Korea shut down after workers took action protesting unsafe working conditions,pay below the government mandated minimum wage,physical,verbal and even sexual abuse.There is a support rally/concert in L.A. Calif. on March 18 from 7-10 at the Temple Gateway Community Center,3200 West Temple St.,downtown LA.A Cort worker is meeting with the execs of one of the companies that has Cort build guitars for them and the company has made a commitment to investigate.Those interested in this lock out can read the blog at cortaction.wordpress.com or see the Facebook site Cort Worker Action.These workers work in horrid conditions often without protective equipment even face masks while breathing in wood dust and paint vapors.The dust from mahogany in partcular is highly toxic and these workers have no compensation if hurt on the job and have to work forced overtime sometimes punching in over 80 hrs a week with no extra pay just threats of dismisal if they refuse.There is a petition supporting these workers but unfortunately I have misplaced the link.

The sad reality is that a large number, if not the majority, of foreign workers who are making items for sale in North America and Europe are being exploited and subjected to dangerous conditions. Its not just Cort and guitars...
